Parole Agent Academy

Parole Agents must complete a ten-week, formal, comprehensive training program at the Richard A. McGee Correctional Training Center located in Galt, California, a suburb south of Sacramento. Cadets attend classes five, or six, days a week, eight hours a day. The curriculum consists of three major disciplines:

  • Academic Instruction
    • Penal Code 832 (POST) examination (if necessary)
    • Classroom assignments
    • Block examinations
    • Practical skill demonstrations
    • Casework
    • Parole agent duties and responsibilities
  • Firearms Training
  • Tactical Skills/Parole Agent Safety and Tactical Training (PAST)
    • Arrest and control techniques
    • Chemical agents

Off site housing is provided for those students that reside more than 50 miles from the Academy.
