Youth Correctional Counselor Opportunities

Youth Correctional Counselors work in many different locations, from inside correctional facilities, to rural conservation camps, to coaching, mentoring and more. YCCs may be assigned to one or more of the following assignments inside a facility:

  • General population unit
  • Intensive treatment program
  • Specialized counseling program
  • Special management program
  • Sex offender program
  • Substance abuse program
  • Intake unit
  • Gang free program
  • Vocational education program
  • Youth conservation camp
  • Special behavioral treatment program

SPECIALIZED ASSIGNMENTS:

Youth Correctional Counselors may be considered for specialized assignments, such as:

IRT Institution Recruitment Team Member

Institution Recruitment Team Members are trained to recruit qualified Peace Officers for the department in local communities. Recruiters attend Job/Career Fairs, College Classes, Military Transition Assistance (TAP) Classes, County Fairs, Nursing School Presentations, and a variety of other local community based activities.

Honor Guard Honor Guard Team Member

The Honor Guard Team provides the Color Guard for a number of social functions throughout the local community.

Fire Camp Camp Counselors

Camp Counselors are responsible for the safety, security, and welfare of CDCR wards in a rural camp setting. They work in conjunction with the Department of Forestry or other agencies during emergencies such as wildland fires, floods and earthquakes by supervising ward crews.

Counseling

Parole Agent

Parole Agents are employed in the facility and out in the community to help supervise wards. In the institution they have oversight of counseling programs on wards assigned to their unit. In the community they supervise parolees to assist them in making a successful transition back into the community.

Management

  • Assistant Superintendent
  • Superintendent
  • Parole Administrator

Staff employed in the Division of Juvenile Justice may transfer and promote to and from the adult division, allowing for even more opportunities.
