Office of Correctional Safety

The Office of Correctional Safety will consolidate all investigative, enforcement, and security functions, within the DCR, into one law enforcement organizational structure. The components will include:

  • Law Enforcement and Investigations Unit (LEIU) Responsible for major criminal investigations and prosecutions, criminal apprehension efforts of prison escapees and parolees wanted for serious and violent felonies, and complex gang related investigations of inmates and parolees suspected of criminal gang activity;
  • Institutional Gang Investigators (IGIs) Responsible for identification, validation and debriefing of inmates who are members or associates of prison gangs, and coordinating intelligence pertaining to organized crime, through prison and street gang activity.
  • Regional Parole Gang Coordinators Responsible for parole supervision of identified and validated gang members, and coordinating intelligence pertaining to organized crime through prison and street gang activity; and
  • Emergency Operations Unit (EOU) Responsible for oversight of emergency management and preparedness, mutual aid, and institutional security matters, including critical incidents, crisis response, and hostage negotiation.
  • Criminal Intelligence and Analysis Unit (CIAU) Responsible for oversight and development of the CDRC data based systems for the tracking and management of gang activity and organized crime within the institutions and paroles operations, and implementing a process institution, paroles, investigative and other law enforcement personnel to gather, organize and share critical information.
