Attorney Employment
The Board of Parole Hearings (BPH) is seeking attorneys to represent inmates and parolees for the following types of hearings:
- Parole suitability hearings for inmates serving life sentences
- Mentally Disordered Offenders
- Probable Cause for Sexually Violent Predators
Assignments are at correctional facilities and county jails throughout the state at a rate of $30 per hour. Available assignments vary from one area to another.
Applications are available online. BPH invoice forms to bill for service are available here for attorneys. Inquiries about scheduling should be e-mailed to the Attorney Scheduling unit at attysch@cdcr.ca.gov. The phone number for the unit is (916) 324-1924.
IF YOU ARE WORKING WITH THE BPH FOR THE FIRST TIME AS AN ATTORNEY, you must also submit a Payee Data Form so that you can be paid. Attorneys already on record with the BPH need not submit this form.
California Parole Advocacy Program
In keeping with the Valdivia v Schwarzenegger decision of the U.S. Federal District Court, the BPH, through the McGeorge School of Law, Institute for Administrative Justice, is seeking attorneys to provide representation to inmates in parole revocation proceedings. Application should be made directly to the McGeorge School of Law at paroleprogram@pacific.edu.
Note: The BPH and McGeorge School of Law maintain separate application lists and application must be made to each independently. In addition, BPH-appointed attorneys must complete on line training.
Interpreter Employment
The Board of Parole Hearings (BPH) is seeking interpreters to assist inmates and parolees for all hearings conducted by BPH. Assignments are at correctional facilities and county jails throughout the state. Interpreter services are reimbursed at a rate of $282.23 per full day services for certified and/or certified and registered interpreters and $175.00 per full day services for non-certified and non registered interpreters. The rate for half day services for certified and/or certified and registered interpreters is $156.56 and for non-certified and non-registered interpreters is $92.00. Available assignments vary from one area to another. A premium above the daily rate, mileage reimbursement and/or a cancellation fee may be provided under unusual circumstances. Mileage will be reimbursed when the interpreter travels 60 miles or more roundtrip AND travels outside the county of his or her place of business (address used for tax purposes). The rate of reimbursement is linked to the state rate (currently .505 cents per mile).
