Board Member Mimi H. Silbert

Mimi Silbert

Dr. Mimi H. Silbert, of San Francisco, was appointed as a member of the Corrections Standards Authority in April 1999. Dr. Silbert has a broad base of experience in corrections.  For over 25 years, she has served as president, board chair, and chief executive officer of the nationally acclaimed Delancey Street Foundation, a self-help residential education center for ex-convicts, ex-addicts, and ex-prostitutes. Since 1996, Dr. Silbert has served as special assistant to Mayor Willie Brown responsible for redesigning and directing implementation of the San Francisco Juvenile Justice Action Plan. Previously, she served as project director for the Department of Corrections’ Bay Area Parole Services Network.

The author of several published works on correctional issues, Dr. Silbert has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in criminology and psychology at the University of California at Berkeley, California State University at San Francisco, and the Golden Gate University. She was also a member of the Peace Officers Standards and Training Advisory Commission.

Dr. Silbert earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and Master of Arts and doctorate degrees from the University of California at Berkeley.
