Construction Jail Design Guide

The Jail Design Guide: A Resource for Small and Medium-Sized Jails was published in 1998 by the National Institute of Corrections.  The document discusses current correctional standards and architectural principles that are important to building a cost-efficient jail to meet a locality's particular needs.  While plainly written, the guide is sufficiently technical and detailed to be beneficial to anyone involved in the planning, design and construction of a new small or medium-sized jail -- sheriffs and local directors of corrections, county commissioners, jail administrators, criminal justice planners and interested citizens.

TO ORDER:  If you represent a California unit of local government (e.g., city or county) and would like to receive a free copy of the Jail Design Guide, please contact charlene.aboytes@cdcr.ca.gov  In your request, be sure to specify the recipient's name and mailing address.
