STC Advisory #01-06 Agency Letter

Return of STC Funds

The Corrections Standards Authority and the Standards and Training for Corrections (STC) program are pleased to announce the return of STC subvention funding for local corrections agencies after an absence of funding for the past three years. The recently passed 2006-07 state budget included $ 19.465 million dollars for local assistance payable from the Corrections Training Fund.

We are in the process of restoring our administrative procedures for distributing the funds to participating local agencies. We anticipate that most of the policies, procedures and guidelines concerning funding will remain the same as in the past. This includes the four categories on which STC assistance can be spent; travel and per diem associated with attending STC certified training, tuition that has been established on STC certified courses (excluding IFT's and WRE's), and replacement costs incurred when sending staff occupying posted positions to training. As in previously funded years each agency has discretion to choose how they wish to spend local assistance as long as it is the four approved categories. We encourage agencies to begin tracking costs in advance of disbursement of subvention funds. If you have any questions about these processes please contact your assigned STC Field Representative.

In the near future you will receive another e-mail specific to your agency that will include an estimate of your 2006-07 STC allocation that will be based on your agency's Annual Training Plan projections. We will continue to keep you updated regarding our progress toward re-implementing the funding component of the STC program.
