STC ADVISORY #12-04
Sonoma State University has developed an online course entitled “Child Abuse Mandated Reporter—Online Training for Probation Officers.” This course, delivered via the Internet, is designed for probation officers. The course, which has been regularly certified for 4 hours of STC credit (#3073-024548), is completed over a two-week period. It includes testing, requires trainees to actively participate in online activities, and will be proctored by a live instructor. There is no charge for the course, and trainees from anywhere in the State of California are eligible to enroll as long as they have access to a computer with an Internet connection.
The course will be presented once each month commencing in August. Typically a new presentation will begin on the first Monday of each month and each presentation will allow trainees to work at their own pace during a span of approximately 2 weeks. Enrollees will be prompted to choose a particular presentation date during the online enrollment process.
Please note that because trainees will be participating from remote locations, and because the course includes a testing component, STC has agreed to waive the requirement that trainees physically sign the STC roster and complete the STC evaluation form. Instead STC will recognize the printed STC roster (without the trainee’s signature) and course evaluation information gathered using Sonoma State’s format.
