State Selection and Training Standards for Correctional Peace Officers- Supervisors Classifications

Primary Functional Areas – 1st and 2nd line Supervisors

CSA staff determined through research and analysis that there is significant overlap in the duties performed by California’s correctional peace officer classifications. The staff grouped all of the job classifications on a rational basis by their primary job function, and clustered the 24 classifications according to their work environment and primary functions. Six job function categories were identified based on the training and job duty. It was agreed that although supervision is a supervisor’s primary duty, it is also important to group those classifications by the job functions they supervise.
