STC Selection Exam News

 The Corrections Standards Authority's (CSA) role in developing entry-level selection exams offers a significant benefit to counties and cities in that test development is:

  • Expensive;
  • Time consuming;
  • Requires a large sample size and;
  • Requires highly technical staff to complete such an endeavor.

The pooling of resources from many jurisdictions around the state in addition to the Board's technical expertise enables the Board to develop and maintain selection exams for local corrections.

In 2004 the CSA completed the development of new selections exams for all three local corrections positions: Adult Corrections Officer, Juvenile Corrections Officer, and Probation Officer. These new tests are available in the traditional paper and pencil form, but now also on-line. The cost associated with administering these exams is comparable.

Both forms of the tests are the same and are based on empirical research that included:

  • Comprehensive job analyses
  • Criterion validity studies to show that the exams predict job performance
