Bill Powers

William Powers

Elected Plumas County Supervisor in 2004, Bill previously served as council member and mayor for the City of Portola. He worked eighteen years as principal and teacher at Jim Beckwourth Continuation High School in Portola, serving high-risk youth. He has been an active member of Plumas County Juvenile Justice Commission since 1999. Born and raised in Portola, Bill, 59, his wife Lori, and their two daughters moved back to the area in 1986. Previously, he was Writer and Editor of the Pacific Southwest Log, the USDA-Forest Service Region Five newsmagazine in San Francisco. Author of numerous articles and short fiction, Bill earned a degree in English from Sierra College, then transferred to San Francisco State University, then on to CSU-Chico where he earned his BA in English and teaching credentials. During his tenure as writer-editor, Bill honed his writing skills through classes at UC-Berkeley. Bill has a strong commitment to finding constructive solutions to the challenges faced by high-risk youth and to transitioning incarcerated and probationary wards back into productive and meaningful roles in our society. As representative for California Counties to this board, his goal is to serve the needs of individual counties consistently with the mission of the Corrections Standards Authority.
