Marlon Yarber- Deputy Director for Corrections Planning & Programs Division

Marlon Yarber is the Deputy Director for the Corrections Planning and Programs Division, which is responsible for the development, administration and evaluation of programs designed to improve the effectiveness of state and local correctional systems and enhance public safety.
Yarber began his career in 1991 as a volunteer youth mentor in the Del Paso Heights neighborhood of Sacramento, CA. In 1994 he was hired as Youth Services Project Director at a community-based organization in Madera County, overseeing mentoring and after school programs. From 1994 to 1998, he worked for Stanislaus County Probation Department with assignments as County Gang Specialist, and as an armed officer working with high-risk adult offenders. In 1998, Yarber began working for Criminal Justice Planning, leaving that office as Chief of Gang Violence Suppression.
Since 2000, he has been employed by the Corrections Standards Authority (formerly Board of Corrections) and has worked on a variety of State and federal juvenile justice grant programs and demonstration projects. From 2005 to 2006, Marlon he was assigned as the Juvenile Justice Specialist for California, serving as a statewide juvenile justice resource person. Yarber is a certified and accomplished facilitator and holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of California, Davis.
