The Preston Youth Correctional Facility is located 40 miles southeast of Sacramento in Amador County. This facility houses male wards in a mixture of open dormitories and living units with individual rooms.
The James A. Wieden High School offers a full range of instruction including special education, basic skills, high school coursework, GED preparation, and vocational education. Community college work is available through correspondence courses. A Free Venture Program is also available.
Preston also serves as a reception center for wards committed to the DJJ by counties in northern California. While wards are in the reception center process, they receive a variety of assessments to determine their individual needs and to develop appropriate treatment plans.
Preston houses many treatment programs. They include an intensive treatment program, a specialized counseling program, and a specialized behavior treatment program.
