Facility Locations

The Institutions and Camps Branch within the California Department of the Youth Authority (DJJ) operates eleven institutions and four community-based camps. These facilities provide a variety of housing options and programs to meet the varied needs of the youthful offender population that the Department serves.

Two institutions provide reception and diagnostic services for males. Female offenders are housed at the Ventura Youth Correctional Facility, which also serves as the reception site for all females. Following a period of clinical assessment and evaluation, offenders are assigned to a permanent program designed for individual needs for training, treatment, and education. In addition to the diagnostic program, each of the male reception centers has an Intensive Treatment Program for emotionally disturbed offenders.

1) If you are trying to locate a ward who has been committed to the Division of Juvenile Justice, please follow these instructions:

Family members, friends, or other interested parties wishing to locate an individual detained in the DJJ are requested to do the following:

  1. Write a letter to the individual in question
  2. Place the letter in an envelope with your return address, addresses as follows:
  • FIRST LINE: Ward's full name and birth date
  • SECOND LINE: California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Division of Juvenile Justice
  • THIRD LINE: P.O. Box 239018
  • FOURTH LINE: Attention Ward Mail
  • FIFTH LINE: Sacramento, CA 95823-9018

The Master File Unit will then locate the ward and forward your letter. It is the ward's responsibility to respond to the questions in your letter. If the letter is returned to you unopened, the ward has not been located within the DJJ based on the information you provided.

Youth Correctional Facilities
Northern California Youth Correctional Center, Stockton. Includes four institutions.

O. H. Close Youth Correctional Facility, P.O. Box 213001, Stockton 95213-9001; (209) 944-6391. Institution for males, programs for younger offenders.
DeWitt Nelson Youth Correctional Facility, P.O. Box 213003, Stockton 95213-9003; (209) 944-6191. Institution for males. Includes extensive job training program and work in the community.
N. A. Chaderjian Youth Correctional Facility, P.O. Box 213014, Stockton 95213-9014; (209) 944-6400. Institution for males between the ages of 18 and 25. The program encourages individuality, personal responsibility, independence, and mutual respect.

Preston Youth Correctional Facility, 201 Waterman Road, Ione 95640; (209) 274-8000. Institution for males. Includes intensive treatment, special counseling, and pre-camp programs.
El Paso de Robles Youth Correctional Facility, P.O. Box 7008, Paso Robles 93447-7008; (805) 238-4040. Institution for males.
Ventura Youth Correctional Facility, 3100 Wright Rd., Camarillo 93010; (805) 485-7951. Coeducational institution for males and females. Includes female reception center-clinic, college program, and intensive treatment for females.
Heman G. Stark Youth Correctional Facility, 15180 Euclid Ave., Chino 91710; (909) 606-5000. Institution for males. Includes special counseling, extensive vocational and job training.

Youth Conservation Camps
