Offenders released to the community from The Division of Juvenile Facilities are assigned to one of 15 parole offices. A parolee is assigned to an agent based on his/her treatment needs. Parole Agents assist parolees with their transition to the community by providing primary parole services.
Parole services include, but are not limited to Intensive Re-entry, Drug and Alcohol Treatment, Sex Offender Continuum of Care, Out-of-Home Placements, Specialized Counseling Services, Electronic Monitoring, Educational Services, Parenting Education, Employment/Vocational Training, Restitution Collection, Restorative Justice and Community Service Programs.
To enhance public protection, parolees are intensively supervised during their first 90 days in the community. In addition, there is intensive counseling and surveillance for specialized caseloads of sex offender, gang involved parolees, parolees who have problems with drugs and alcohol and those who experience severe emotional and behavioral problems. The Department utilizes electronic monitoring as an enhancement to parole supervision for selected parolees.
Parole staff works closely with law enforcement and the Youth Authority Board to promote public protection. The Youth Authority Board (YAB) is an administrative agency charged with the responsibility for parole decisions with regard to violations. The Department of Juvenile Justice is concerned with gang suppression and cooperates with many community agencies to achieve this objective.
