  • Training rangemasters, safety/tactical instructors, baton instructors for the Division of Adult Parole Operations
  • Providing annual mandatory training requirements for the parole agent classification
  • Complying with policy, law changes, and negotiated requirements

History of R. A. McGee

Adult Programs is responsible for:

  • Training correctional officer cadets during the sixteen-week Basic Correctional Officer Academy
  • Coordinating the Department's Range and Tactical unit
  • Instructor certification in expandable baton, rangemaster, and armory courses
  • Sergeants and lieutenants academies
  • Scheduling, tracking, and documenting of training at the Richard A. McGee Correctional Training Center (CTC)
  • Scheduling and facilitating the PC 832 training

Juvenile Parole Programs is responsible for:

  • Training newly hired Division of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) parole agent cadets during a three-week DJJ Parole Agent Academy
  • All annual mandatory training requirements for the DJJ parole agent classifications and the DJJ Parole non-peace officer staff
  • Complying with policy, law, changes, and negotiated instruction

Juvenile Programs

Juvenile Programs consists of Basic Correctional Juvenile Academy (BCJA) and Division of Juvenile Justice Range and Tactical Unit (DJJRTU).

BCJA is responsible for:

  • Training newly hired officer cadets attending the BCJA. (The BCJA is certified through the San Joaquin Delta College - Criminal Justice Administration Program.)
  • The BPOI's Youth Programs: training specific to rehabilitation and treatment of youthful offenders in the care of the DJJ

The DJJRTU is responsible for the inventory, assignment, maintenance, and the weapons functions tests for DJJ firearms. The DJJRTU is also responsible for specialized training of staff within the DJJ Facilities and Juvenile Parole Operations.

Training includes:

  • PC 832 Initial Firearms Training
  • Quarterly firearms qualifications and training
  • 9mm Department transition program training
  • Coordination of armorer's schools
  • Rangemaster training
  • POST and other range/tactical training
