The Office of Public and Employee Communications (OPEC) handles internal and external communications, including media inquiries, for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. OPEC coordinates press conferences, develops/ disseminates public information, and arranges interviews with the news media for the Department. OPEC also oversees public information activity, messaging and media training for the state’s 33 prisons, its fire camps and four parole regions.
