Division of Juvenile Justice Offenders
Ward and Parolee Programs
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Division of Juvenile Justice (CDCR, DJJ) emphasizes public protection and offender accountability, and believes that the most effective way to protect the public is to ensure that offenders are held accountable for criminal behavior. The department and its staff are committed to working closely with law enforcement, the courts, the district attorneys, and public defenders, probation, and a broad spectrum of public and private agencies concerned and involved with problem youth.
The mission of the DJJ is to rehabilitate and educate the youthful offender population sent to us by the California courts and to that end, the DJJ emphasizes quality treatment and education programming. Information contained in this section will provide you with an overview of the types and variety of programs available for youthful offenders who have a diverse range of social, educational, and emotional needs.
Operating 10 institutions, four camps, and 16 parole offices, the DJJ offers a variety of housing options and a wide variety of quality programs and services to meet the needs of this diverse population. At the core of the DJJ's programs and services is a dedicated and highly trained staff that provides a safe and healthy environment and the opportunity for youthful offenders to re-integrate into the community and lead law-abiding lives.
In the DJJ, the "treatment and training" concept encompasses all activities, programs, and services in which a young person participates. All staff members having contact with a youthful offender contribute to the treatment and training programs.
