Loved Ones Mourn Together During Crime Victim’s Week

On April 13, twenty family members gathered at the Crime Victim’s Oak Garden in San Diego. The park serves as a peaceful environment where family members can go to pay tribute to their loved ones who were killed. The park offers a gazebo with a shaded area and benches for visitors to rest and reflect. The park is surrounded by 400 trees, each representing a victim of a violent crime. The trees were planted by family members.

This year’s event was the River of Remembrance. Those who attended shared their grief and painted stones in memory of those lost. The memorial stones were placed throughout the park. The property was donated by Mercy Hospital to the Survivors of Violent Loss Network who sponsored the moving event along with the San Diego Chapter of Parents of Murdered Children.
