The Governor announced the San Quentin Transformation Advisory Council in May 2023. The multidisciplinary group includes people of many backgrounds and disciplines, who bring a wealth of knowledge and perspective to re-imagine San Quentin.

With input from criminal justice experts from across the world, community leaders and program providers, and those who live and work in the prison, the Advisory Council has provided recommendations and a plan with the goal to bring transformational programmatic, cultural and physical change that can serve as a symbol of hope and change and a practical model that can be scaled to other institutions across the state.

Report to transform San Quentin submitted to CDCR

In January 2024, the San Quentin Transformation Advisory Council presented its final report with various recommendations to both reimagine San Quentin and help inform the California Model in CDCR.
