Task Statements:

1.  Cuts the hair of youthful offenders and patients using barbering tools to maintain appearance, grooming, and safety standards as it pertains to policy.

2.  Supervises youthful offenders in barbering methods to maintain the appearance of other youthful offenders by ensuring the barbering assistants adhere to grooming and safety standards in accordance with State health and safety standards.

3.  Supervises youthful offenders in barbershop sanitation to ensure the selected barbering assistants maintain hygiene and safety standards in accordance with State health and safety standards.

4.  Instructs youthful offenders in barbering methods to maintain the appearance of other youthful offenders by ensuring the barbering assistants adhere to grooming and safety standards as it pertains to policy.

5.  Instructs youthful offenders in barbershop sanitation to ensure the barbershop is kept in a clean and sanitary condition as it pertains to State health and safety standards.

6.  Sharpens barber tools with the appropriate implements to ensure efficiency of the items as needed.

7.  Disinfects barber tools with disinfectant agents such as Mar-V-Cide and Barbicide to ensure the health and safety of youthful offenders as required by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards.

8.  Requisitions supplies from the institution’s procurement office to ensure the barber shop functions properly as needed.

9.  Keeps the barbershop clean and sanitary with cleaning supplies to ensure the health and safety of employees and youthful offenders as required.

10.  Shaves youthful offenders and patients in a hospital setting using straight and safety razors to ensure hygiene standards as needed.

11.  Assists persons to and from the barber chair to help disabled or those unable to receive haircuts otherwise as needed.

12.  Makes change and writes receipts for money received from customers to ensure proper documentation of services rendered.

13.  Maintains order of persons committed to the Departments of Corrections and Rehabilitation/Division of Juvenile Justice as required by State law.

14.  Supervises the conduct of persons committed to the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation/Division of Juvenile Justice as required by State law. 15. Be alert for escape plans to prevent escapes by persons committed to the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation/Division of Juvenile Justice and reports to security personnel by using electronic devices (such as intercom systems) as required by Departmental policy.

16.  Prevents injury by persons committed to the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation/Division of Juvenile Justice as required by State law.

17.  Maintains security of working areas by performing daily inventory control and visual spot checks as required by Departmental guidelines.

18.  Maintains security of work materials by performing daily inventory control and visual checks as required by Departmental guidelines.

19.  Inspects premises contraband such as weapons or illegal drugs using Departmental resources including correctional officers as required by Departmental policy.

20.  Searches youthful offenders and patients for contraband such as weapons or illegal drugs using Departmental resources including correctional officers as required by Departmental policy.

21.  Repairs barbershop barbering equipment by using various sizes of screwdrivers to replace broken and/or dull blades on clippers as needed.

22.  Disposes of broken and/or dull blades in safe receptacles in order to maintain the safety of the Institution as per Departmental policy.

23.  Grooms facial hair of youthful offenders and patients to adhere to grooming standards using outliners and trimmers as requested.

24.  Documents the names of youth receiving barbershop services in the barbershop to accurately record the time and date services were rendered in accordance with Departmental policy.

25.  Communicates with security personnel regarding imminent threats of harm to employees and youthful offenders by using the electronic devices (such as email and telephone) as required by Departmental policy.

26.  Communicates with security personnel regarding the location of contraband within or outside the barbershop by using electronic devices (such as email or telephone) as required by Departmental policy.

27.  Coordinates with security regarding youthful offender’s appointments and tracks the location of youthful offenders at all given times as per Departmental policy.

28.  Reports to security personnel any unusual or suspicious activity to maintain safety and security of the institution by using electronic devices (such as email or telephone) as per Departmental policy.

29.  Alerts security personnel to altercations in order to maintain safety and security by use of alarm systems (such as personal alarm systems) and other electronic devices (such as radios or telephones) as per Departmental policy.

30.  Develops and implements a schedule for sessions in the barbershop to render services to youthful offenders using electronic applications and email as per Departmental policy.

31.  Utilizes standard barbering methods when rendering services to youthful offenders in order to adhere to health and safety standards as required by State law.

32.  Maintains control of the barbershop to prevent youthful offenders from escaping from the facility by communicating relevant information to security personnel as per Departmental policy.

33.  Instructs youthful offenders in communication techniques to set a standard for them to strive for to adhere to good behavior and provide a positive environment using Integrated Behavioral Treatment Model standards as per Departmental policy.
