class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>EDITED TASK LISTING<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>NOTE: Each position within\nthis classification may perform some or all of these tasks.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>Task Statements: <\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>1.\n&nbsp;Organize the schedule of Administrative\nLaw Judges (ALJs) in a geographical area to ensure work is performed\nefficiently utilizing communication skills, research skills, appropriate\ntraining, laws, regulations and Departmental policies and practices, as\nrequired. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2.\n&nbsp;Supervise ALJs and clerical staff in a\ngeographical area to ensure work assignments are completed timely and\naccurately utilizing interpersonal skills, relevant training, laws, regulations\nand departmental policies and practices as required. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3.\n&nbsp;Provide training to ALJs and clerical\nstaff to develop and maintain their skills and expertise in the performance of\ntheir duties in accordance with departmental guidelines utilizing laws,\nregulations and departmental policies and practices, as needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4.\n&nbsp;Evaluate ALJs and clerical staff through\nprobationary reports, Individual Development Plans, training to maintain the\nquantity and quality of the work produced utilizing Bargaining Unit Agreement,\nappropriate training, managerial skills, and interpersonal skills, as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5.\n&nbsp;Represent Board of Parole Hearing (BPH)\nin contact with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), law\nenforcement agencies, the Attorney General&#8217;s Office and other interested public\nand private agencies to ensure BPH\u2019s hearing process is implemented fairly and\nproperly utilizing communication skills, negotiation skills, personal\nknowledge, appropriate training, laws, regulations and departmental policies\nand practices, as needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>6.\n&nbsp;Presides over quasi-judicial hearings to\ndetermine if inmates are suitable for parole using California Code of\nRegulations Title 15 (CCR Title 15), Penal Code, and Case Law as required. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>7.\n&nbsp;Monitors hearings conducted by ALJs and\nperforms on-site reviews to ensure compliance utilizing statues, regulations\nand BPH policies and procedures as required. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>8.\n&nbsp;Review decisions made by subordinates to\nensure decisions were done appropriately and legally utilizing CCR Title 15,\nPenal Code, Case Law and departmental policies and practices as required. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>9.\n&nbsp;Provide decision consultation to\nsubordinates on difficult cases to provide expertise to make certain all\ndepartmental policies and laws are considered utilizing communication skills,\npersonal knowledge, appropriate training, laws, regulations and departmental\npolicies and practices, as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>10.\n&nbsp;Assist in the formulation of policies\nand procedures related to the hearing functions of the Board to provide\nguidance utilizing communication skills, personal knowledge, appropriate\ntraining, laws, regulations and departmental policies and practices, as needed.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>11.\n&nbsp;Function as assistant to the Chief\nDeputy at headquarters office to ensure operational needs are met using\nadministrative and personnel management skills as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>12.\n&nbsp;Maintain the central office calendar to\nprovide assistance to stake holders (e.g. outside public, law enforcements, and\nother state agencies) regarding BPH hearing process utilizing CCR Title 15,\nPenal Code, communication skills, personal knowledge, and Departmental policies\nand practices as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>13.\n&nbsp;Update training materials to stay in\ncompliance with the laws and regulations utilizing CCR Title 15, Penal Code,\nand Case Law as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>14.\n&nbsp;Act as the Chief Deputy in his\/her\nabsence to ensure operational needs are met using administrative and personnel\nmanagement skills, as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>15.\n&nbsp;Schedule and monitor hearing schedules\nfor calendaring of cases and timeliness of hearings to assure due process\nutilizing Case Law, court mandates and Board policy and procedures as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>16.\n&nbsp;Assist with special projects and other\nrelated work as designated by the Chief Deputy to ensure operational needs are\nmet utilizing negotiation skills and personnel management skills as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>17.\n&nbsp;Perform legal research and analysis on\nvarious subjects to ensure current practices and procedures are in compliance\nwith the law utilizing CCR Title 15, Penal Code, Case Law, and departmental\npolicies and practices as required. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>18.\n&nbsp;Provide legal advice to BPH Legal\nDepartment after reviewing case files and consider all applicable rules and\nlaws to ensure BPH is in compliance with State and Federal guidelines utilizing\nCCR Title 15, Penal Code, Case Law and departmental policies and practices as\nrequired. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>19. &nbsp;Sit on special panel hearing cases recommended\nfor further action by the Division of Adult Parole Operations to determine if\ndischarge off parole is appropriate utilizing CCR Title 15 and departmental\npolicies and practices as needed. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>20. &nbsp;Conduct youth offender parole suitability\nhearings to determine if youth offenders are suitable for parole using CCR\nTitle 15, Penal Code, and Case Law as required. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>21. &nbsp;Conduct medical parole hearings for inmates\nwith serious medical conditions to determine if placement in the community is\nappropriate utilizing departmental policies and practices and Case Law as\nrequired. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>22. &nbsp;Conduct proceedings for mentally disordered\noffenders and sexually violent predators to determine if they meet the\nappropriate criteria for mental health treatment after release from prison\nutilizing CCR Title 15, Penal Code, Case Law, Welfare and Institutions Code,\nDepartmental policies and practices as required. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>23. &nbsp;Determine whether parolees should be\ndischarged from parole utilizing CCR Title 15, Penal Code, Case Law,\ndepartmental policies and practices as required. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>24. &nbsp;Determine appropriate decisions and sanctions\nto be imposed based on evidence provided to ensure due process and public\nsafety are met utilizing CCR Title 15, Penal Code and departmental policies and\npractices as required.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>25. &nbsp;Review the length and\/or appropriateness of\nprison sentences imposed by the courts for identified inmates for possible\nrelease utilizing departmental policies and practices and Case Law as required.\n<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>26. &nbsp;Guides the institution classification staff\nscreening of cases for hearing by BPH to ensure jurisdiction is appropriate\nutilizing CCR Title 15, Penal Code and departmental policies and practices as\nrequired.
