in this classification per the\nState Controller\u2019s Office Filled\/Vacant Position Report dated April 2002.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>EDITED TASK LISTING<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>NOTE: Each\nposition within this classification may perform some or all of these tasks.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em><strong>Task Statements:<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>1.\n&nbsp;Plans, organizes and directs staff in\nthe assessment and management of mental disorders including examining,\ndiagnosing, classifying, prescribing treatment and rehabilitation programs for\npatients in institutional and\/or parole settings to ensure compliance with\nappropriate standards of care as specified in various laws, rules, regulations,\ncourt mandates, etc. on a continuous basis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2.\n&nbsp;Conducts and\/or facilitates staff\nconferences, committees, meetings, In-Service Training, etc. to provide\ninformation and ensure proper implementation of the standard of medical care\nutilizing communication and management skills, policies, procedures, etc. as\nneeded. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3.\n&nbsp;Reviews medical and psychological\nexamination findings for evidence of organic disturbances as well as other\ncomplicating features (e.g. physical illnesses, developmental problems, seizure\ndisorders, medication side-affects, etc.) related to mental disorders to ensure\nappropriate placement and treatment of patients utilizing various resources\n(e.g. expertise, laws, rules, regulations, court mandates, testing, etc.) as\nrequired. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4.\n&nbsp;Recommends transfer of patients to\nappropriate levels of mental health care and\/or assists in the arrangements for\nfollow-up and after-care during parole including release parole medication, to\nassure continuity of appropriate treatment utilizing various resources (e.g.\nexpertise, laws, rules, regulations, court mandates, testing, history, etc.) as\nneeded. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5.\n&nbsp;Provides input for the management of\npatients placed on parole to assure continuity of care and to maintain the\nsafety of the community in cases where there is a threat of violence utilizing\nknowledge of controlling laws, rules, regulations, court mandates, and\nappropriately communicating with persons and agencies as required. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>6.\n&nbsp;Facilitates the hiring process by\nconducting interviews, evaluating and recommending candidates for appointment\nutilizing various methods of filling vacancies (e.g. recruitment, team\nbuilding, training and development assignments, certification lists, etc.) as\nneeded. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>7.\n&nbsp;Evaluates and provides feedback to\nemployees to ensure performance objectives\/standards are met by monitoring\nwork, assignments and\/or behaviors as defined by various laws, administrative\nrules, policies, procedures, etc. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>8.\n&nbsp;Prepares various written documents (e.g.\ncorrespondence, reports, consultations, memoranda, etc,) to provide\ndocumentation, information, direction, etc., to others (e.g. patients and their\nfamilies, staff, government officials, etc.) utilizing various resources (e.g.\ncommunications skills, computer equipment, etc.) as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>9.\n&nbsp;As with all employees, maintains order\nof persons committed to the California Department of Corrections to ensure the\nsecurity of working areas\/materials, to prevent escape and injury by these\npersons to themselves and\/or others, and to safeguard property utilizing\nvarious resources (e.g. interpersonal skills, heightened awareness of the\nsurroundings, knowledge, various alarm systems, etc.) as dictated by\ndepartmental policy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>10.\n&nbsp;Participates in the development of\npolicies and standards for the mental health program to assure compliance with\nexisting laws, regulations, court mandates, etc. as required. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>11.\n&nbsp;Organizes, directs, and evaluates\ninstitutional and outpatient treatment programs to ensure compliance with\nappropriate standards of care as specified in various laws, rules, regulations,\ncourt mandates, etc. on a continuous basis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>12.\n&nbsp;Consults with professional\norganizations, public officials, departmental staff, community groups, etc. on\nall phases of the Department\u2019s mental health program to provide technical\nadvice, expertise, to assist in the resolution of clinical problems that may\narise, etc. utilizing various resources (e.g. professional skills, laws, rules,\nregulations, court mandates, etc.) as necessary. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>13.\n&nbsp;Communicates with others (e.g. staff,\nmental health professionals, allied groups, provider organizations, other\npublic and private agencies, etc.) to establish and maintain liaison and\ncooperative relationships utilizing various resources (e.g.\ninterpersonal\/communication skills, knowledge, etc.) as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>14.\n&nbsp;Represents the Department on various\nmental health issues (e.g. Mentally Disordered Offender Act, Sexually Violent\nPredators Act, Board of Prison Term reports, etc.) to provide expertise,\ninformation, etc. utilizing various resources (e.g. interpersonal\/communication\nskills, knowledge, laws, rules, regulations, court mandates, etc.) as required.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>15.\n&nbsp;Maintains the morale and cohesiveness of\nthe staff to ensure the appropriate treatment of patients encountered in practice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>K3.\n&nbsp;Thorough knowledge of literature and\nrecent developments in the field of psychiatry in order to maintain good\nstandards of care in keeping with current practice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>K4.\n&nbsp;Basic knowledge of the principles and\npractices of clinical psychology, psychiatric social work and psychiatric\nnursing as they apply to the management and care of the mentally disordered\npatients. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>K5.\n&nbsp;Comprehensive knowledge of effective\nsupervision and personnel management to effectively direct and manage staff in\nthe area of patient care\/management. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>K6.\n&nbsp;Thorough knowledge of the various\npatient levels of care (i.e., Correctional Clinical Case Management System,\nEnhanced Outpatient Program, Mental Health Crisis Bed, In-Patient Care) for\neffective management of patient care. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>K7.\n&nbsp;Basic knowledge of the principles,\nmethods and objectives of training treatment
