1.\n Performs oral evaluations of inmate\npatients to provide a course of treatment, utilizing professional knowledge and\ncomprehensive dental skills, authorized by the Department Operations Manual\n(DOM), Title 15, Dental Practice Act, etc. and the Chief Dentist, CF. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2.\n Performs periodontics dentistry (e.g.,\noral hygiene instruction, scaling, prophylaxes, etc.) to provide comprehensive\ndental care to diagnose, prevent, treat, and control periodontal disease that\npresents a threat to the health and well being of inmate patients utilizing\nappropriate instrumentation, professional knowledge, and comprehensive dental\nskills authorized by the Departmental Operations Manual (DOM), Title 15, etc.\nand the Chief Dentist, CF. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

3.\n Performs oral surgery to treat dental\npathology that presents a threat to the health and well being of inmate\npatients, utilizing appropriate instrumentation, professional knowledge and\ncomprehensive dental skills authorized by the Departmental Operations Manual\n(DOM), Title 15, etc. and the Chief Dentist, CF. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

4.\n Performs oral radiology to diagnose\ndental pathology that presents a threat to the health and well being of inmate\npatients, utilizing the dental radiographs, professional knowledge and\ncomprehensive dental skills authorized by the State of California Dental\nRadiologic License, Departmental Operations Manual (DOM), Title 15, etc. and\nthe Chief Dentist, CF. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

5.\n Performs operative dentistry to correct\ndental pathology and\/or conditions of the oral cavity (masticatory apparatus)\nthat presents a threat to the health and well being of inmate patients\nutilizing appropriate instrumentation, materials, professional knowledge and\ncomprehensive dental skills authorized by the Departmental Operations Manual\n(DOM), Title 15, etc. and the Chief Dentist, CF. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

6.\n Performs prosthetic dentistry (e.g.,\nremovable partials, full dentures, etc.) to restore masticatory function to\nmaintain overall health and well being of inmate patients utilizing appropriate\ninstrumentation, materials, professional knowledge and comprehensive dental\nskills authorized by the Departmental Operations Manual (DOM), Title 15, etc.\nand the Chief Dentist, CF. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

7.\n Performs endodontics (e.g., root canals,\netc.) to maintain the integrity of the dentition and the overall health and\nwell being of inmate patients utilizing appropriate instrumentation, materials,\nprofessional knowledge and comprehensive dental skills authorized by the\nDepartmental Operations Manual (DOM), Title 15, etc. and the Chief Dentist, CF.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8.\n Provides clinical direction to dental\nassistants to ensure optimum performance of chair-side procedures, infection\ncontrol, radiographs, and other critical support functions (e.g., maintaining\nequipment, inventory, record management, etc.) utilizing professional knowledge\nand interpersonal communication skills, etc. authorized by the Departmental\nOperations Manual (DOM), Title 15, Dental Practice Act, etc. and the Chief\nDentist, CF. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

9.\n Documents treatment in the inmate\npatients dental record to provide a record of inmate patient care in accordance\nwith the Dental Practice Act, departmental policies and procedures,\nDepartmental Operations Manual (DOM), Title 15, etc. and the Chief Dentist, CF.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

10.\n Prepares various written documents\n(e.g., records [tool and needle control, dental statistics, etc.], other\nreports, forms, logs [spore tests, etc.], correspondence [inmate requests, lab\nslips, etc.], etc.) to provide information, direction to others, and to ensure\ncompliance with various laws, rules, regulations, departmental policies,\nprocedures, etc. utilizing various resources. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

11.\n Supervises dental assistants in the\nperformance of their daily duties to provide efficient and coordinated inmate\npatient care utilizing supervisory skills, professional knowledge, etc. in\naccordance with Departmental Operations Manual (DOM), and departmental policies\nand procedures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

12.\n Serves on various committees, task\nforces, and work groups dealing with health care issues at a local and\/or\ndivisional level as directed by the Health Care Manager to provide subject\nmatter expertise. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

13.\n Attends various training courses (e.g.,\norientation, staff meetings, in-service training and on-the-job training, etc.)\nto comply with institutional policies and procedures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

14.\n Inspects premises for health and safety\nconcerns in accordance with CAL OSHA, Departmental Operations Manual (DOM),\ndepartmental policies and procedures, and Dental Practice Act, etc. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

15.\n Schedules daily patient appointments,\ntriage, inmate patients\u2019 requests for care (CDC 7362), etc. to provide\ncomprehensive dental care to diagnose, prevent, treat, control and correct\ndental conditions that present a threat to the health and well being of inmates\nin accordance with Departmental Operations Manual (DOM), and departmental\npolicies and procedures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

16.\n Maintains security of working areas and\nwork materials\/instruments to promote a safe and secure working environment\nutilizing tool control procedures, etc. in accordance with the Departmental\nOperations Manual (DOM), and departmental policies and procedures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

17.\n Prevents escapes of and\/or injury by\npersons committed to the Department of Corrections to themselves or others or\nto the destruction of property through personal observation to promote a safe\nand secure environment, in accordance with Departmental Operations Manual\n(DOM), and departmental policies and procedures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

18.\n Provides coverage in dental emergency\nsituations (sick calls) to provide comprehensive dental care to diagnose,\nprevent, treat, control and correct dental conditions that present a threat to\nthe health and well being of inmate patients in accordance with Departmental\nOperations Manual (DOM), and departmental policies and procedures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

19.\n Oversees infection control policies and\nprocedures (e.g., personal protective equipment, etc.) instrument\nsterilization, surface disinfection, barrier protectors, etc. to promote a\nclean and safe environment for the health and well being of inmate patients and\nstaff in accordance with CAL OSHA, laws, rules, regulations, Code of Safe\nPractices, Departmental Operations Manual (DOM), and departmental policies and\nprocedures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

20.\n Enhances and maintains professional\nskills through continuing education as required by the Board of Dental\nExaminers to stay abreast of advances in modern dentistry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

21.\n Coordinates the maintenance (i.e.,\nrepair, cleaning and upkeep) of various dental equipment (e.g., electrical,\nplumbing, etc.) with the Chief Dentist to facilitate the ongoing, uninterrupted\ndelivery of dental care utilizing personal observations and professional\nknowledge, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

22.\n Communicates in a professional manner\nand deals with confidential, sensitive, and multidisciplinary issues utilizing\ntact, interpersonal skills, etc., to establish and maintain effective working\nrelationships with health care and custody staff in order to determine and resolve\ncustody\/health care issues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

23.\n Maintains a work environment free of\ndiscrimination and harassment, utilizing various resources (e.g., training,\nlaws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, etc.) on a daily basis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

24.\n Prescribes and dispenses medications to\ninmate patients to alleviate pain and infection, etc. in accordance with a\nvalid California dental license utilizing professional knowledge and judgment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
