1.  Plant ornamental plants, shrubs, hedges, trees\nand flowers, and propagates cuttings to ensure appropriate maintenance of\ngrounds, utilizing various tools and\/or equipment (e.g., shovels, hand tools,\netc.), in accordance with institutional operational procedures, as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2.  Cultivate ornamental plants, shrubs, hedges,\ntrees and flowers, and propagates cuttings to maintain and beautify\ninstitutional grounds, utilizing various tools and\/or equipment (e.g., hoes,\nshovels, rototillers, etc.), in accordance with institutional operational\nprocedures, as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

3.  Water ornamental plants, shrubs, hedges, trees\nand flowers, and propagates cuttings to maintain plant survival, utilizing\nvarious tools and \/or equipment (e.g., portable sprinklers, hoses, irrigation\nsystems, etc.), under the direction of the supervisor, as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

4.  Spray ornamental plants, shrubs, hedges, trees\nand flowers, and propagates cuttings to control weeds, insects and plant\ndiseases in order to maintain healthy and insect free grounds, utilizing\nherbicides and pesticides, in accordance with institutional operational\nprocedures, California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal OSHA)\nand Department of Pesticide Regulations, as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

5.  Maintain plants along highways and in semiarid\nregions to remove brush, weeds and debris in order to reduce weed infestation,\nfire hazards and visual obstruction, utilizing various tools\/equipment (e.g.,\nsaws, trimmers, mowers, gloves, safety glasses, etc.), in accordance with Cal\nOSHA and Department of Pesticide Regulations, as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

6.  Rake leaves, hoes weeds, and perform general\ngrounds maintenance work to beautify institutional grounds, utilizing\nappropriate tools\/equipment (e.g., rakes, blowers, hoes, shovels, etc.) in\naccordance with proper safety and maintenance standards, on a continuous basis.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7.  Prepare and treat soils for planting and\nfertilizing flower beds to promote healthy plant and flower growth, utilizing\nvarious hand tools and fertilizers, in accordance with institutional needs, as\nrequired. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

8.  Set out plants to maintain and beautify institutional\ngrounds, utilizing various hand tools (e.g., rakes, shovels, and trowels,\netc.), under the direction of the supervisor, as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

9.  Supervise the work of inmates or patient\nhelpers engaged in on-going landscape maintenance (e.g., mowing, edging, debris\nremoval, etc.) to ensure completion of job assignments and to maintain the\nsafety and security of the institution, utilizing interpersonal skills and\nexpertise, Departmental Operational Manual (DOM), and Title 15, on a daily\nbasis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

10.  Keep greenhouses and other buildings in repair\nand free from diseases and pests to promote a healthy work environment,\nutilizing various tools and equipment (e.g., disinfectants, water, brushes,\nblowers, etc.), in accordance with institutional operational procedures and\n(DOM), as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

11.  Keep grounds clean and orderly preventing potential safety hazards and to maintain an aesthetically pleasing work environment, utilizing grab sticks, sacks, rakes, shovels, blowers, etc., under the direction of the immediate supervisor, on a continuous basis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

12.  Maintain hoses, tools, equipment, and supplies\nin proper condition and repair to keep them operational, utilizing mechanical\nskills and knowledge, under general direction of the immediate supervisor, on a\nregular basis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

13.  Trim trees, hedges and shrubs to encourage\nplant growth, development, and to enhance institutional safety and security by\nutilizing a variety of hand and power tools (e.g., shears, pruners, chain saws,\netc.), in accordance with institutional operational procedures and DOM, as\nrequired. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

14.  Erect tree supports to maintain proper tree\ngrowth and development by utilizing post hole digger, shovels, hammers, etc.,\nunder the direction of the immediate supervisor, as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

15.  Perform general laboring tasks related to\ngrounds and garden maintenance work to keep grounds clean and orderly,\nutilizing various tools and equipment, in accordance with DOM, and\ninstitutional operational procedures, as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

16.  Maintain order and supervise the conduct of\npersons committed to the California Department of Corrections and\nRehabilitation to ensure institutional safety and security, utilizing DOM,\nTitle 15, and institutional policies, as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

17.  Maintain the safety and security of the\ninstitution, preventing escapes and injuries by inmates to themselves, others,\nor property, utilizing interpersonal skills, situational awareness, DOM, and\nTitle 15, on a daily basis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

18.  Maintain security of working areas and work\nmaterials to ensure the safety and security of the institution, utilizing\npersonal awareness and observational skills, in accordance with DOM, Title 15,\nand institutional operational procedures, on a daily basis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

19.  Inspect premises and search inmates, youthful\noffenders, residents, or patients for contraband (e.g. weapons, illegal drugs,\nand cell phones, etc.) to ensure a safe and secure environment, utilizing\nobservational skills, correctional awareness and training, in accordance with\nDOM, Title 15, and institutional operational procedures, on a daily basis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

20.  Order\nsupplies for all aspects of grounds keeping (e.g., equipment parts,\nfertilizers, herbicides, flowers, bushes, trees, etc.) to properly maintain\ninstitutional grounds, utilizing procurement forms, computers, fax machines and\ntelephones, in accordance with institutional operational procedures, as needed.\n<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

21. \u00a0Complete written records (e.g., Inmate time, performance reviews, CDCR 115, Self-Inspection form, etc.) to comply with institutional policies, by utilizing computer and writing skills, in accordance with the DOM and Title 15, on a daily basis.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

22.  Conduct\ninventory of equipment, supplies, and materials (e.g., hazardous materials,\nlandscaping tools, Personal Protective Equipment, etc.) to comply with\ninstitutional safety and security rules and regulations, utilizing writing and\nmathematical skills, in accordance with the DOM and Title 15, on a regular\nbasis.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

23.  Attend\ntraining (e.g., Institutional Safety Training, Plant Operations, Equipment\nOperations, etc.) to enhance skills and knowledge of institutional and grounds\nkeeping practices, utilizing training manuals, group discussions, hands-on\nactivities, etc., in accordance with the DOM and institutional operational\nprocedures, as required.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

24.  Apply\nproper methods and techniques (i.e., Integrated Pest Management and pesticide\napplications, etc.) to effectively control unwanted vegetation on institutional\ngrounds and surrounding areas, utilizing sprayers, shovels, spreaders, and\nrakes, etc., in accordance with the California Department of Pesticide\nRegulations, as needed.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

25.  Install,\nrepair and adjust irrigation systems to efficiently distribute water to\nlandscaped areas by utilizing hand tools (e.g., trenching shovels, irrigation\npipes and fittings, time controllers, etc.), in accordance with institutional\nrequirements, as needed.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
