classification may perform some or all of these\ntasks.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>Task Statements:<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>1.\n&nbsp;Evaluate leisure materials (e.g., books,\nperiodicals, books on tape, specialized multimedia reading\/listening equipment,\netc.) for inmates\/wards to provide access to recreational library materials\nutilizing various lists including American Library Association (ALA)\nrecommendations, publications, requests\/suggestions from inmates\/wards\/other\nstaff, etc. in accordance with the California Department of Corrections and\nRehabilitation\u2019s Department Operations Manuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2.\n&nbsp;Evaluate resources that promote literacy\n(e.g., low reading level\/high interest books, weekly readers, books on tape,\netc.) for professional staff for classroom instruction and library activities\nutilizing personal library experience, vendors\/publishers catalogs, publisher\nsamples, literacy council recommendations, etc. as needed and\/or required by\nliteracy related legislation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3.\n&nbsp;Evaluate requests from inmates\/wards\nrelated to law library services (e.g., court access, electronic delivery\nsystems, legal software, etc.) in order to disseminate information contained in\nthe law library and provide meaningful access to the courts for inmates\/wards,\nutilizing court mandated legal delivery systems, (e.g., books, subscriptions, periodicals,\netc.) in accordance with court mandates and the California Department of\nCorrections and Rehabilitation\u2019s Department Operations Manuals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4.\n&nbsp;Analyze\/resolve collection development\nneeds for procurement of materials\/services (e.g., quotes, multiple bids, sole\nsource, purchasing limits, etc.) to assist the Senior Librarian, Supervising\nLibrarian, and\/or School Principal in the selection and delivery of library\ngoods and services utilizing standard library selection tools in accordance\nwith State procurement policies and the California Department of Corrections\nand Rehabilitation\u2019s Department Operations Manuals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5.\n&nbsp;Initiate the procurement process (e.g.,\nquotes, multiple bids, sole source, purchasing limits, etc.) to assist the\nSenior Librarian, Supervising Librarian, and\/or School Principal in the\nselection and delivery of library goods and services utilizing standard library\nselection tools in accordance with State procurement policies and the\nCalifornia Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation\u2019s Department Operations\nManuals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>6.\n&nbsp;Participate in training to keep informed\nof new developments in library science to incorporate new\ntechnologies\/ideas\/methodologies in the delivery of library services utilizing\nprofessional publications, conferences, and continuing education classes, etc.\nin accordance with the American Library Association\u2019s and the Correctional\nEducation Association\u2019s standards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>7.\n&nbsp;Supervise inmate\/ward library workers to\nprovide delivery of library assistance and technical services for library\npatrons by utilizing inmate job descriptions in accordance with local\noperational procedures and Departmental policies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>8.\n&nbsp;Train inmate\/ward library workers to\ndeliver library assistance to inmate\/ward patrons by providing them with\ninterpersonal, library organizational, research, and technical skills utilizing\napproved library standards in accordance with local operational procedures and\nDepartmental policies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>9.\n&nbsp;Maintain order\/security of working areas\nand work materials by supervising the conduct of inmates\/wards committed to the\nCalifornia Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation in order to prevent\nescapes and injury by these persons to themselves, others, and\/or property by\nutilizing appropriate search methods for contraband, inventories, situational\nawareness, etc. in accordance with the California Department of Corrections and\nRehabilitation\u2019s Department Operations Manuals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>10.\n&nbsp;Perform professional level library work\nin connection with selecting, cataloging, loaning, or the reference use of\nbooks, electronic media, and other library materials to assist\ninmates\/wards\/staff within the institutional community to provide recreational\/educational\nmaterials and legal access, utilizing books, electronic media, and other\nlibrary materials in accordance with the California Department of Corrections\nand Rehabilitation\u2019s Department Operations Manuals and court mandates. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>11.\n&nbsp;Answers difficult reference questions\nfrom inmates\/wards\/staff to deliver library assistance by conducting\ncomprehensive reference interviews for the institutional community and\nutilizing bibliographic and electronic media as required and consistent with\nthe American Library Association\u2019s standards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>12.\n&nbsp;Processes intra\/inter-library loan\nrequests for inmates\/wards\/staff within the institutional community by\nproviding the appropriate requested library materials utilizing the\nintra\/inter-library loan process as required and consistent with the American\nLibrary Association\u2019s standards and\/or court mandates. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>13.\n&nbsp;Catalog library materials (e.g.,\nmanuscripts, clippings, books, multimedia, etc.) to provide ease of access for\ninmates\/wards\/staff within the institutional community by utilizing\nDepartmentally approved cataloging systems as required and consistent with the\nAmerican Library Association\u2019s
