LISTING<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>NOTE:\nEach position within this classification may perform some or all of these\ntasks.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>Task Statements:<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>1.\n&nbsp;Circulate material for inmates (e.g.,\nbooks, periodicals, audiobooks, specialized reading\/listening equipment, etc.)\nto provide access to library materials utilizing push carts, assessing due-date\nstatus, computing any applicable fines, sending out notices for lost or overdue\nbooks in accordance with Departmental Operation Manual (DOM), institutional\npolicies and procedures, on a daily basis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2.\n&nbsp;Initiate the procurement process for the\nInstitution (e.g., quotes, multiple bids, sole sources, purchasing limits,\netc.) to develop a functional library collection utilizing the library catalog,\nAmerican Library Association (ALA) book lists, bibliographic databases, inmate\nrequests, circulation data, etc., in accordance with DOM, institutional\npolicies and procedures, as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3.\n&nbsp;Copy-catalog library materials (e.g.,\nserial publications, books, audiobooks, etc.) to provide access to materials\nfor inmates utilizing approved cataloging systems (i.e., E-Z Cat and\nConcourse), in accordance with standard library practices [i.e., MARC (Machine\nReadable Cataloging), AACR2 (Anglo-American Cataloging Rules), RDA (Resource\nDescription and Access)], as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4.\n&nbsp;Maintain library materials for inmates\n(e.g., books, periodicals, audiobooks, specialized reading\/listening equipment,\netc.) by inspecting the physical condition of available resources, selecting\nmaterials for rebinding, repairing and replacing worn or outdated materials\nusing book tape, book glue, manila folders, etc. in accordance with\ninstitutional policies and procedures, as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5.\n&nbsp;Maintain a complete and accurate catalog\nof library resources for inmates to ensure inmate access to information in the\nlibrary through books, periodicals, audiobooks, specialized reading\/listening\nequipment, etc. in accordance with institutional policies and procedures, as\nneeded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>6.\n&nbsp;Pre-catalog library materials (e.g.,\nserial publications, books, audiobooks, etc.) to provide ease of access for\ninmates within the correctional institution by utilizing departmentally\napproved cataloging systems as required by ALA standards, DOM and institutional\npolicies and procedures, as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>7.\n&nbsp;Process Inter-Library Loan (ILL)\nrequests for inmates to have access to legal resources outside the regular\ncollection utilizing the ILL requests, as required by the institutional\nguidelines and in accordance with DOM, institutional policies and procedures,\nas needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>8.\n&nbsp;Supervise inmate library clerks to\nprovide library and technical services, utilizing job descriptions and duty\nstatements, in accordance with institutional policies and procedures, on a\ndaily basis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>9.\n&nbsp;Train inmate library clerks in proper\nlibrary techniques (e.g., cataloging, classification, reference, circulation,\ndatabase instruction, etc.) to ensure proper library operations and resources\nutilizing job descriptions, ALA guidelines, on-one-one instruction, etc., in\naccordance with institutional policies and procedures, on a daily basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>10.\n&nbsp;Evaluate the performance of the inmate\nlibrary clerks to ensure quality operational standards are being met utilizing\nStrategic Offender Management System (SOMS) identified training needs, incentives,\nrecommend corrective actions, etc., in accordance with DOM, institutional\npolicies and procedures, on a daily basis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>11.\n&nbsp;Maintain order and security of work\nareas and materials by supervising the conduct of inmates to ensure the safety\nand security of the institutions, by completing reports used for\naccountability, and applying skills and techniques (e.g., observation of\ninmates, communication, delegation of tasks, etc.), in accordance with CCR\nTitle 15-Division 3, institutional policies and procedures, etc., on a daily\nbasis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>12.\n&nbsp;Complete inmate time keeping to ensure\nproper time is credited and to document work habits (attendance and\npunctuality) utilizing forms and supervisory reports (i.e., SOMS Assignment\nAttendance and Inmate Pay Sheet), in accordance with DOM, institutional\npolicies and procedures, on a daily basis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>13.\n&nbsp;Supervise the conduct of inmates to\nprevent escapes and injury by completing reports used for accountability, and\napplying skills and techniques (e.g., observation of inmates, communication,\ndelegation of tasks, etc.), in accordance with CCR Title 15-Division 3,\ninstitutional policies and procedures, etc., on a daily basis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>14.\n&nbsp;Maintain control of library materials\nand equipment issued to inmates utilizing visual awareness, perpetual inventory\nform (Hazardous, Toxic And Volatile Substances, CDCR 2280), and a tool control\nlog, to record and ensure proper use of materials, in accordance with\ninstitutional policies and procedures, on a daily basis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>15.\n&nbsp;Inspect premises for contraband (e.g.\nweapons, illegal drugs, pornography, etc.) to ensure the safety and security of\nthe institution, by completing reports used for accountability, and applying\nskills and techniques (e.g., observation of inmates, communication, delegation\nof tasks, etc.), in accordance with CCR Title 15-Division 3, institutional\npolicies and procedures, etc., on a daily basis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>16.\n&nbsp;<strong>Operate\nstandard office equipment (e.g., copier\/fax\/scanner, personal computer,\ntelephone, etc.) to complete assignment utilizing equipment manuals, In-Service\nTraining (IST), supervisory instruction, etc., in accordance with DOM and\ninstitutional policies and procedures, on a daily basis. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>17.\n&nbsp;<strong>File\nlibrary related documents, forms, reports, etc. to keep accurate archival\nrecords, and ensure materials are available for future reference, utilizing\nfiling skills (e.g., alphabetic, chronologic, numeric, subject matter, etc.),\nin accordance with institutional policies and procedures, on a daily basis. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>18.\n&nbsp;<strong>Prepare\nnew library materials (e.g. books, periodicals, legal resources, pamphlets,\nbinders, memos, operational procedures, etc.) for cataloging in order to\nmaintain accurate library records and make them available for inmate usage,\nutilizing Integrated Library System (ILS), rubber stamps, computers, printers,\nbarcode scanners, tape, labels, etc., in accordance with institutional policies\nand procedures, as needed. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>19.\n&nbsp;<strong>Prepare\nlibrary related reports (e.g., circulation statistics, inventory, inmate\naccess, schedules, photocopy count, etc.) to ensure accountability and document\nuse of library services utilizing forms, Concourse ILS, and log books, in\naccordance with institutional policies and procedures, as required. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>20.\n&nbsp;<strong>Approve\/disapprove\nrequests from inmates for Priority Legal User (PLU) status to provide access\nfor inmates to do legal work utilizing the California and Federal Rules of\nCourt and inmate documentation from the court, in accordance with Title 15\n\u00a73122, as needed. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>21.\n&nbsp;<strong>Schedule\ninmates for library services to ensure they receive court mandated access based\non their PLU status utilizing SOMS in accordance with Title 15 \u00a73122, on a\ndaily basis. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>22.\n&nbsp;<strong>Respond\nto inmate reference questions and deliver library services by conducting\nreference interviews utilizing bibliographies, electronic media, and\ninstructing inmates on the use of digital and analog resources in accordance\nwith institutional policies and procedures, on a daily basis. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>23.\n&nbsp;<strong>Receive\nrequests and schedule inmates for library services utilizing library forms and\nSOMS, in accordance with institutional policies and procedures, on a daily\nbasis.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>24.\n&nbsp;<strong>Perform\nperiodic inventory of the library collection utilizing the library catalog in\norder to ensure resources are available to inmates by shelf reading and\nreferring to the current catalog, in accordance with institutional policies and\nprocedures, as needed. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>25.\n&nbsp;<strong>Monitor\naccuracy of postings (e.g., Federal, State, and local mandates, legal notices\netc.) to ensure inmates have access to current information, utilizing equipment\nand supplies (e.g., copier, computer, clip boards, bulletin boards, etc.), in\naccordance with institutional policies and procedures, on a daily basis.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>26.\n&nbsp;<strong>Train\ninmates in basic computer and software applications [e.g., Microsoft Windows,\nElectronic Law Library Delivery System (ELLDS) database, etc.] in order to\nprovide inmates with library services utilizing training manuals, workshops,\nand individualized sessions, in accordance with institutional policies and\nprocedures, as needed. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>27.\n&nbsp;<strong>Manage\nflow of library services to ensure inmates receive adequate access to\ninformation utilizing organization skills (e.g., time management, effective\ncommunication, interacting with a diverse population of inmates in the library\nsetting, etc.) in accordance with institutional policies and procedures, on a\ndaily basis. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>28.\n&nbsp;<strong>Encourage\neducation and literacy through library services to inmates by compiling book\nlists and implementing educational opportunities (e.g., reading programs,\npoetry contests, book contests, book reports, etc.), in accordance with\ninstitutional policies and procedures, as needed. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>29.\n&nbsp;<strong>Provide\ninformation regarding rehabilitation and re-entry services through library\nresources (e.g., pamphlets, re-entry guides, Alternative Custody Programs\n(ACP), parolee programming, etc.), utilizing Workforce Investment Act (WIA)\ndonations, non-profit organizations, and State operated programs, in accordance\nwith institutional policies and procedures, as needed. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>30.\n&nbsp;<strong>Train\ninmates in the use of library resources (e.g., encyclopedias, glossaries,\ncatalogs, databases, etc.), day-to-day functions, basic computer usage,\nidentification of reference resources, etc., in accordance with institutional\npolicies and procedures, as needed. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>31.\n&nbsp;<strong>Supervise\ninmates to maintain order and conduct utilizing institutional counts, searches,\nand training (e.g. Injury Illness Prevention Program (IIPP),
