components, and devices using test equipment and hand tools\nto locate causes of breakdowns, restore power, and minimize interruption to\nprograms and daily operations in accordance with PPE, UBC, CCR general direction\nof the Chief Engineer and\/or Supervisor of Building Trades. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>8.\n&nbsp;Inspect proper condition of\nmiscellaneous plumbing systems (e.g., clear drains and sewer lines, repair\nwater lines, install valves, fixture replacement, etc.) in the correctional\nfacility setting in order to ensure the safety and security of the institution\nutilizing Statewide Automated Preventative Maintenance System (SAPMS), UBC,\ndepartmental policies and procedures, etc. under the general direction of the\nChief Engineer and\/or Supervisor of Building Trades. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>9.\n&nbsp;Perform miscellaneous metal fabrication\nwork (e.g., welding, sheet metal work, brazing, stainless steel work, etc.) in\nthe correctional facility setting in order to ensure the safety and security of\nthe institution by repairing, maintaining, and improving equipment and\nbuildings utilizing PPE, UBC, CCR Title 8 and 15, CFR, departmental policies\nand procedures, etc. under the general direction of the Chief Engineer and\/or\nSupervisor of Building Trades. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>10.\n&nbsp;Perform equipment operations (e.g.,\nscissor lifts, backhoes, aerial lifts, forklifts, etc.) in the correctional\nfacility setting to ensure the safety and security of the institution by\nassisting in the repair, maintenance, and\/or improvement of the buildings,\nutilities, equipment, maintenance systems, etc. utilizing PPE, UBC, CCR Title 8\nand 15, CFR, departmental policies and procedures, etc. under the general\ndirection of the Chief Engineer and\/or Supervisor of Building Trades. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>11.\n&nbsp;Perform minor building construction\n(e.g., interior\/exterior painting, concrete forming and finishing, door\ninstallation, building stairs and ladders, install cabinets, etc.) in the\ncorrectional facility setting to ensure the safety and security of the\ninstitution by assisting in the repair, maintenance, and\/or improvement of the\nbuildings, grounds, curbing, etc. utilizing plans and specifications,\nblueprints, As-Built Schematics, proper tools and materials, PPE, UBC, CCR\nTitle 8 and 15, CFR, departmental policies and procedures, etc. under the\ngeneral direction of the Chief Engineer and\/or Supervisor of Building Trades. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>12.\n&nbsp;<strong>Scrape,\nsand and fill damaged surfaces for priming\/painting buildings, structures, and\nfixtures (e.g., sheet rock, doors\/frames, and window trim, etc.) to meet\ninstitutional program security needs, federal and state mandates, etc.,\nutilizing resources (e.g., Hazardous Material Guidelines, Injury Illness and\nPrevention Program [IIPP], etc.) as needed.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>13.\n&nbsp;Supervise inmates to carry out repairs\nand preventive maintenance work orders to ensure the safety and security of the\ninstitution by demonstrating the proper repair and maintenance methods\nutilizing Code of Safe Practices, IIPP, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Operators\nManuals, departmental policies and procedures, etc. under the general direction\nof the Chief Engineer and\/or Supervisor of Building Trades. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>14.\n&nbsp;Estimate cost of parts, materials and\ntime needed in the repair and maintenance of equipment and buildings by\nutilizing Business Information System (BIS), catalogs, internet, etc. in order\nto maintain inventories to complete SAPMS work orders and emergency repairs\nminimizing institutional daily operational programs downtime under the general\ndirection of the Chief Engineer and\/or Supervisor of Building Trades as needed.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>15.\n&nbsp;Keep accurate inventories of materials,\nsupplies, shop equipment and tools needed in the repair and maintenance of\nequipment and buildings by utilizing forms and procedures, etc. in accordance\nwith Department Operations Manual (DOM), CCR Title 15, departmental policies\nand procedures, laws, rules and regulations under the general direction of the\nChief Engineer and\/or Supervisor of Building Trades. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>16.\n&nbsp;Maintain timekeeping through the\nStrategic Offender Management System (SOMS) and safety training records to\nprovide information to management for departmental use and maintain safety and\nsecurity of the institution utilizing DOM, CCR Title 15, departmental policies\nand procedures, laws, rules and regulations under the general direction of the\nChief Engineer and\/or Supervisor of Building Trades. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>17.\n&nbsp;Ensure tools\/equipment are properly\nmaintained to prevent injuries and down time, and produce efficient completion\nof preventive and demand work orders, utilizing CCR Title 15, DOM, IIPP,\nCal-OSHA, Equipment Operational Manual, institutional operational procedures,\ncommunication with manufacturers, broken tool reports, etc., under the general\ndirection of the Chief Engineer and\/or Supervisor of Building Trades on a daily\nbasis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>18.\n&nbsp;Maintain tool inventory in order to\nensure the safety and security of the institution by utilizing a scheduled and\nrandom tool count, writing information in the tool control inventory log (name,\ndate, time, and article) and by using a color coded shadow board and chit\nsystem for the issuance of tools per DOM, departmental policies and procedures,\netc., under the general direction of the Chief Engineer and\/or Supervisor of\nBuilding Trades. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>19.\n&nbsp;Maintain the safety and security of\npersons and property, to prevent escape of and injury by persons committed to\nthe California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) to\nthemselves or others or to property in accordance with the DOM, departmental\npolicies and procedures, CCR Title 15, etc., under the general direction of the\nChief Engineer and\/or Supervisor of Building Trades. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>20.\n&nbsp;Inspect premises and search inmates for\ncontraband (e.g., weapons or illegal drugs, etc.) to ensure the safety and\nsecurity of the institution and public utilizing laws, rules, regulations,\ndepartmental policies and procedures, etc. under the direction of the Chief\nEngineer and\/or Supervisor of Building Trades. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>21.\n&nbsp;Maintain order and supervise the conduct\nof persons committed to the CDCR to produce a safe and productive work\nenvironment utilizing the DOM, CCR Title 15, and departmental policies and\nprocedures under the general direction of the Chief Engineer and\/or Supervisor\nof Building Trades. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>22.\n&nbsp;Inspect work area for fire\/safety\nhazards\/contraband in order to maintain a safe and productive work environment\nin accordance with the DOM, CCR Title 8 and 15, departmental policies and\nprocedures, etc. under the general direction of the Chief Engineer and\/or\nSupervisor of Building Trades. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>23.\n&nbsp;Represent the department, in formal or\ninformal settings, regarding maintenance mechanic issues at meetings,\nconferences, hearings, legal depositions, etc. to obtain or provide information\nand\/or represent the interest of the department utilizing interpersonal skills,\nprofessionalism, personal knowledge, etc. under the general direction of the\nChief Engineer and\/or Supervisor of Building Trades. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>24.\n&nbsp;Interpret blueprints, drawings,\nschematics, and specifications of buildings and equipment to identify specific\ninformation and document additions or changes (e.g., data, location,\nspecifications, etc.) for completing required repairs, modifications,\npreventive maintenance, and fabrication utilizing professional knowledge under\nthe general direction of the Chief Engineer and\/or Supervisor of Building\nTrades. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>25.\n, Appropriately handle stressful situations in the work place, in a\nprofessional and tactful manner, with a goal of avoiding
