class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>Task Statements:<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>1.\n&nbsp;Evaluate leisure materials (e.g., books,\nperiodicals, books on tape, specialized multimedia reading\/listening equipment,\netc.) and\/or review said evaluations prepared by Librarians and\/or Library\nTechnical Assistants, for inmates\/wards to provide access to recreational\nlibrary materials utilizing various lists including American Library\nAssociation (ALA) recommendations, publications, requests\/suggestions from\ninmates\/wards\/other staff, etc. in accordance with the California Department of\nCorrections and Rehabilitation\u2019s Department Operations Manuals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2.\n&nbsp;Evaluate resources that promote literacy\n(e.g., low reading level\/high interest books, weekly readers, books on tape,\netc.) and\/or review said evaluations prepared by Librarians and\/or Library\nTechnical Assistants, for professional staff for classroom instruction and\nlibrary activities utilizing personal library experience, vendors\/publishers\ncatalogs, publisher samples, literacy council recommendations, etc. as needed\nand\/or required by literacy related legislation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3.\n&nbsp;Evaluate requests from inmates\/wards\nrelated to law library services (e.g., court access, electronic delivery\nsystems, legal software, etc.) and\/or review said evaluations prepared by\nLibrarians and\/or Library Technical Assistants, in order to disseminate\ninformation contained in the law library and provide meaningful access to the\ncourts for inmates\/wards, utilizing court mandated legal delivery systems,\n(e.g., books, subscriptions, periodicals, etc.) in accordance with court\nmandates and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation\u2019s\nDepartment Operations Manuals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4.\n&nbsp;Analyze\/resolve collection development\nneeds for procurement of materials\/services (e.g., quotes, multiple bids, sole\nsource, purchasing limits, etc.) and\/or review said work prepared by Librarians\nand\/or Library Technical Assistants, to assist the Supervising Librarian,\nand\/or School Principal in the selection and delivery of library goods and\nservices utilizing standard library selection tools in accordance with State\nprocurement policies and the California Department of Corrections and\nRehabilitation\u2019s Department Operations Manuals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5.\n&nbsp;Responsible for the procurement process\nthrough completion (e.g., quotes, multiple bids, sole source, purchasing\nlimits, stock received reports, etc.) and\/or will review said work if prepared\nby Librarians and\/or Library Technical Assistants, to assist the Supervising Librarian\nand\/or School Principal, in the selection and delivery of library goods and\nservices utilizing standard library selection tools in accordance with State\nprocurement policies and the California Department of Corrections and\nRehabilitation\u2019s Department Operations Manuals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>6.\n&nbsp;Participate in training to keep informed\nof new developments in library science to incorporate new\ntechnologies\/ideas\/methodologies in the delivery of library services utilizing\nprofessional publications, conferences, and continuing education classes, etc.\nin accordance with the American Library Association\u2019s and the Correctional\nEducation Association\u2019s standards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>7.\n&nbsp;Supervise inmate\/ward library workers to\nprovide delivery of library assistance and technical services for library\npatrons by utilizing inmate\/ward job descriptions in accordance with local\noperational procedures and Departmental policies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>8.\n&nbsp;Coordinate training of inmate\/ward\nlibrary workers to deliver library assistance to inmate\/ward patrons by\nproviding them with interpersonal, library organizational, research, and\ntechnical skills utilizing approved library standards in accordance with local\noperational procedures and Departmental policies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>9.\n&nbsp;Conduct ongoing law library training of\ninmate\/ward library workers to deliver law library assistance to inmate\/ward\npatrons by providing them with interpersonal, library organizational, research,\nand technical skills utilizing approved library standards in accordance with\nlocal operational procedures and Departmental policies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>10.\n&nbsp;Maintain order\/security of working areas\nand work materials by supervising the conduct of inmates\/wards committed to the\nCalifornia Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation in order to prevent\nescapes and injury by these persons to themselves, others, and\/or property by\nutilizing appropriate search methods for contraband, inventories, situational\nawareness, etc. in accordance with the California Department of Corrections and\nRehabilitation\u2019s Department Operations Manuals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>11.\n&nbsp;Perform highly complex professional\nlevel library work and\/or review less complex work prepared by Librarians\nand\/or Library Technical Assistants, in connection with selecting, cataloging,\nloaning, or the reference use of books, electronic media, and other library\nmaterials to assist inmates\/wards\/staff within the institutional community to\nprovide recreational\/educational materials and legal access, utilizing books,\nelectronic media, and other library materials in accordance with the California\nDepartment of Corrections and Rehabilitation\u2019s Department Operations Manuals\nand court mandates. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>12.\n&nbsp;Answers complex and\/or difficult\nreference questions from inmates\/wards\/staff to deliver library assistance by\nconducting comprehensive reference interviews for the institutional community\nand utilizing bibliographic and electronic media as required and consistent\nwith the American Library Association\u2019s standards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>13.\n&nbsp;Coordinates and\/or processes\nintra\/inter-library loan requests for inmates\/wards\/staff within the\ninstitutional community by providing the appropriate requested library\nmaterials utilizing the intra\/inter-library loan process as required and\nconsistent with the American Library Association\u2019s standards and\/or court\nmandates. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>14.\n&nbsp;Coordinates and\/or catalogs library\nmaterials (e.g., manuscripts, clippings, books, multimedia, etc.) to provide\nease of access for inmates\/wards\/staff within the institutional community by\nutilizing Departmentally approved cataloging systems as required and consistent\nwith the American Library Association\u2019s standards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>15.\n&nbsp;Facilitate the coordination with the\neducational department to ensure access is provided to adopted\/supplemental\ncourse materials for schools\/inmates\/students\/wards and staff within the\ninstitutional community by housing and maintaining necessary educational\nsupport items as required. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>16.\n&nbsp;Responsible for a complex correctional\nlibrary program (e.g., special population needs based on facility missions,\nsize of library collection, complexity of the electronic delivery systems,\netc.) for schools\/inmates\/students\/wards and staff within the institutional\ncommunity to provide delivery of library services utilizing various delivery\nmethods (e.g., book trucks, utility carts, hand delivery, internal mail, etc.)\nas required and consistent with the American Library Association\u2019s standards\nand\/or court mandates. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>17.\n&nbsp;Ensure compliance of library programs\nwith court mandated regulations (e.g., ADA, Gilmore, etc.) for\nschools\/inmates\/students\/wards and staff within the institutional community to\nprovide library services and access to the court, utilizing the legal\ncollection as required and consistent with the California Code of Regulations\nTitle 15, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation\u2019s\nDepartment Operations Manuals and\/or court mandates.
