1.\n Prepare mechanical engineering drawings,\nspecifications and cost estimates in connection with design and construction of\na variety of projects to ensure code compliance, obtain California state Fire\nMarshal approval and ensure accurate construction utilizing Computer Aided\nDrafting and Design (CADD) and Revit computer software and applicable\nCalifornia Code of Regulations (CCR) as required. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2.\n Perform technical design review on\nprojects at various stages in order to ensure conformity to building codes,\ndepartmental design criteria guidelines, and construction suitability utilizing\npersonal technical knowledge and experience as needed and\/or directed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

3.\n Perform material take-off and cost\nestimates of mechanical work on a wide variety of projects to establish costs\nutilizing various resources (e.g. computer hardware and software, personal\nexperience, etc.), required codes and acceptable industry construction\nstandards as needed and\/or directed.<\/s> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

4.\n Review purchase requisitions for\nconstruction work regarding mechanical equipment for a wide variety of projects\nto ensure conformity to plans and specifications utilizing personal experience,\nplans and specifications, etc. as needed and\/or directed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

5.\n Perform inspections of mechanical\nengineering equipment and systems to ensure their construction and\/or\ninstallation conform to plans, specifications and applicable codes utilizing\npersonal experience, tools, plans and specifications, etc. as required by the\nconstruction schedule. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

6.\n Conduct specialized investigations and\ntechnical studies producing complete and comprehensive written reports and\ncorrespondence and make recommendations on mechanical engineering issues to\ncomply with program needs utilizing various resources (e.g. computer hardware\nand software, personal experience, etc.) and required codes as needed and\/or\ndirected. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

7.\n Provide mechanical engineering\nconstruction support on a wide variety of projects to ensure conformity of\nplans and specifications utilizing personal experience, plans, specifications,\ntechnical knowledge, required codes, etc. as needed and\/or directed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

8.\n Perform field surveys of existing\nmechanical engineering conditions for various construction projects in order to\nproduce design documents utilizing various resources (e.g. computer hardware\nand software, hand drafting tools, personal experience, etc.) as needed and\/or\ndirected. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

9.\n Represent the department in formal or\ninformal settings (meetings, conferences, hearings, legal depositions, etc.)\nregarding mechanical engineering matters in order to obtain or provide\ninformation and\/or represent the interest of the department utilizing\ninterpersonal skills, professionalism, personal knowledge, etc. as needed\nand\/or upon request. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

10.\n Interpret and apply laws, rules,\nregulations, departmental policies and procedures, etc. regarding mechanical\nengineering issues in order to gain an understanding and apply as needed and\/or\nupon request. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

11.\n Train others in the design and\npreparation of mechanical aspects of drawings, specifications, cost estimates,\nconstruction inspections and field surveys to ensure a capable workforce\nutilizing various resources (e.g. computer hardware and software, hand drafting\ntools, personal experience, etc.) and required codes as needed and\/or directed.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

12.\n Perform value engineering on mechanical\naspects of projects to determine various design alternatives obtaining the best\nvalue for a project utilizing necessary resources (e.g. computer hardware and\nsoftware, personal experience, etc.) and required codes as needed and\/or\ndirected. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

13.\n Report current project status to\nsupervisor in order to provide regular updates utilizing personal experience\nand various resources (e.g. time estimate skills, knowledge of prior project\nhistory, etc.) as required by departmental policies and guidelines. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

14.\n Manage projects contracted to outside\narchitects and engineers to produce construction documents which meet the code\nand departmental guidelines utilizing project management skills, negotiation\nskills, personal experience and technical knowledge such as project scoping,\nfee determination and scheduling as needed and\/or directed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

15.\n Act in the absence of supervisor to\nensure continued efficient operation of the mechanical engineering unit\nutilizing personal experience and knowledge as needed.<\/s> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

16.\n Assign and schedule other engineers\nspecific tasks\/projects impacting the mechanical engineering work to ensure\nprojects are fully completed and on time utilizing personal experience,\ntechnical knowledge, personal computer, etc. as needed.<\/s> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

17.\n Review other mechanical engineer\u2019s\nplans, specifications, and reports in order to ensure conformity to building\ncodes, departmental design criteria guidelines and construction suitability\nutilizing personal experience and knowledge as needed and\/or upon request. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

18.\n Coordinate with other disciplines and\nteam members to prevent construction conflicts, change orders, potential\nadditional cost and\/or litigation utilizing effective communication skills and\ntools (telephone, personal computer, meetings, etc.) as required. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

19.  Consult with stakeholders on a variety of\nengineering and\/or construction issues (e.g. procurement documents, design of\nprojects, service requests, etc.) to provide guidance, information and\nrecommendations utilizing various resources (e.g. computer hardware and\nsoftware, personal experience, required codes, etc.) as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

20.\n Perform Life Cycle cost analysis for\nvarious projects to determine the optimal proposed design which meets the\ndepartment\u2019s ultimate goal and standard utilizing personal knowledge, computer\nsoftware, effective communication and writing skills as required. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

21.\n Propose additional language and\/or\nchanges to the existing mechanical, plumbing and energy codes to better meet\nthe construction or program requirements of the department utilizing technical\nknowledge, effective communication and writing skills, etc. as needed and\/or\ndirected.<\/s> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

22.\n Propose changes to the existing\ndesign criteria guidelines of the department and\/or obtain waivers to better\nmeet the construction or program requirements of the department utilizing\ntechnical knowledge, effective communication and writing skills, etc. as needed\nand\/or directed. <\/s><\/p>\n\n\n\n

23.\n Create standard design drawings and\nspecifications for buildings which share a common design built at various\nlocations to reduce design time and construction cost utilizing various\nresources (e.g. personal knowledge, computer software and hardware,\ndepartmental policies and procedures, etc.) as needed and\/or directed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

24.\n Provide professional engineering support\nfor the institutions that are coordinating with local and other state agencies\nto obtain permits and agreements in order to provide guidance and technical\ninformation utilizing personal experience, technical knowledge, plans,\nspecifications and required codes as needed and\/or directed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

25.\n Coordinate and prioritize tasks for\ntimely completion of projects to produce monthly management reports utilizing\nthe project schedule and assignment schedule as needed and\/or directed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

26.\n Travel to state institution to\ninvestigate existing situations regarding mechanical equipment operation and to\nhelp determine cause and resolution of specific issues utilizing available mode\nof transportation as required. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

27.\n Specify institutional type, vandal proof\nand suicide resistant equipment to ensure the safety and security of the\noccupant and prevent unnecessary repairs and\/or replacement utilizing personal\nknowledge, departmental policies and procedures, design documents, etc. as\nneeded. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

28.\n Perform mechanical engineering\ncalculations such as heating\/cooling load, plumbing, Title 24, piping and\npumping systems, etc. to enable proper selection of equipment and piping\nutilizing personal knowledge, computer software, etc. as the project demands. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

29.\n Select mechanical engineering equipment\nsuch as heating, air conditioning, ventilation, refrigeration, plumbing,\nhydronics, etc. to ensure the correct equipment components are included in the\ndesign utilizing personal knowledge, computer software, etc. as the project demands.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

K2.\n Comprehensive knowledge of hydronic\npiping systems pertaining to the design of hot water, chilled water, boilers,\nchillers, cooling towers, steam and condensate piping and pumps to provide\ndesign, construction support and design review. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

K3.\n Comprehensive knowledge of various\ncodes, safety orders and regulations governing the design and installation of\nmechanical equipment in order to provide design, construction support and\ndesign review. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

K4.\n General knowledge of cost estimates for\nmechanical engineering aspects (e.g. heating, ventilation, air-conditioning,\ninstrumentation, pumping, lubrication, piping, etc.) in order to provide cost\neffective design work in preparation of plans and specifications. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

K5.\n Basic knowledge of electrical\nengineering, structural engineering and architectural elements as related to\nbuildings in order to properly coordinate mechanical aspects in relation to\nmulti-discipline design work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

K6.\nGeneral knowledge of the principles of effective supervision and personnel\nmanagement practices in order to direct all aspects of mechanical engineering\nprojects.<\/s> <\/p>\n\n\n\n
