Task Statements:<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

1.\n Examine plans of important public\nbuildings to determine their ability to withstand seismic, wind or gravity and\nother code required loads (e.g., earth, floods, etc.) to safely carry such\nloads as may be imposed utilizing the California Building Code (CBC),\nengineering software, manuals, as required. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2.\n Mentor staff with the preparation and\nreviewing of design documents (e.g., specifications, drawings, calculations,\netc.) to provide guidance and assistance utilizing interpersonal skills,\nprofessional knowledge, CBC, engineering software, manuals, as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

3.\n Review specifications, shop drawings and\nsubmittals for major buildings and other structures to ensure compliance with\nconstruction documents utilizing the CBC, engineering software, manuals, etc.,\nas required. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

4.\n Observe structures during construction\nto ensure conformance to plans and specifications utilizing various equipment\n(e.g., rebar finder, Schmidt hammer, etc.), professional knowledge, CBC,\nmanuals, as necessary. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

5.\n Provide assistance to architects,\nengineers, contractors and other design professionals to ensure accurate\ninterpretation of the Design Criteria Guidelines (DCG) set up by the\nDepartment, utilizing professional knowledge, as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

6.\n Review conceptual designs and\/or\nconstruction documents provided by institution and\/or design consultants to\nensure compliance with applicable codes and DCG, utilizing professional\nknowledge, as directed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

7.\n Consult with construction personnel to\nprovide information, alternative construction methods, review change orders,\nrespond to request for information (RFI), etc., utilizing professional\nknowledge, interpersonal skills, CBC, DCG, as necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8.\n Consult with institution plant\noperations personnel to provide technical information, recommendations on\nstructural concerns, etc., utilizing professional knowledge, experience,\ninterpersonal skills, as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

9.\n Prepare construction documents (e.g.,\ndrawings, specifications, calculations, etc.) for major buildings and other\nstructures to provide direction to the unit responsible for construction\nutilizing engineering software, CBC, DCG, as directed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

10.\n Prepare conceptual designs of structures\nto develop budget estimates utilizing professional knowledge, CBC, DCG,\nengineering software, manuals, etc., as directed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

11.\n Communicate in a professional and\neffective manner with others in order to provide accurate information and\nestablish and maintain effective working relationships in all situations\nutilizing tact and interpersonal skills, on a daily basis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

12.\n Conduct value engineering (analysis) for\nvarious projects to provide possible cost saving alternatives utilizing various\nresources (e.g., professional knowledge, CBC, DCG, engineering software,\nmanuals, etc.) as directed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

13.\n Certify that structures have been built\nper the design documents utilizing observation, site visits, professional\nknowledge, etc., as required. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

14.\n Evaluate\nexisting major buildings and other structures to ensure structural integrity\nand safety utilizing various resources and equipment (e.g., professional\nknowledge, CBC, DCG, engineering software, manuals, rebar finder, Schmidt\nhammer, etc.) as directed.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

15.\n Provide\ndirection during site observation to construction personnel and\/or inspectors\nto ensure structures are built per design documents utilizing professional\nknowledge, CBC, DCG, engineering software, manuals, etc., as needed.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

16.\n Develop\nwritten reports of structural assessments to provide recommendations and\ndocumentation utilizing departmental computers, professional knowledge, CBC,\nDCG, engineering software, manuals, etc., as needed.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

17.\n Manage\nin-house design projects that are structural in nature with engineering and\narchitectural disciplines to ensure design conforms to the budget,\ninstitutional needs, CBC, and DCG utilizing professional knowledge,\ndepartmental computer, scheduling, etc., as directed.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

18.\n Prepare\nconstruction bulletins to update design projects as requested by the\ninstitution and\/or to ensure latest codes are incorporated utilizing CBC, DCG,\nprofessional knowledge, departmental computer, as directed.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

19.\n Coordinate\nthe work of other engineering disciplines, architects, environmentalists,\nsecurity staff, institutional personnel, Capital Outlay Unit, etc., in order to\nproduce complete and accurate documents and\/or correspondence utilizing various\nresources (e.g., codes, manuals, professional knowledge, interpersonal skills,\nindustry standard techniques) as necessary.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

20.\n Develop\nproject fees, estimates and schedules for each phase of project development in\norder to produce or review designs, construction documents, perform\nconstruction administration and project close-out utilizing departmental\nstandard forms and procedures, professional knowledge, project scheduling\nsoftware, etc., as directed.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

21.\n Prepare\nproject status reports in order to provide information to clients and team\nmembers on the progress of projects, utilizing departmental database software,\ndepartmental policies and procedures, as needed.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

22.\n Coordinate\ndocument reviews and approvals by applicable jurisdictional authorities (e.g.,\nState Fire Marshal, State Historical Society, etc.) in order to produce\napproved designs and construction documents utilizing back-check meetings,\ndepartmental policies and procedures, as needed.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

23.\n Participate\nin training for professional development in order to improve project\nleadership\/management skills, morale, design and technical knowledge utilizing\nState funded training, departmental training, etc., as mandated.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

24.\n Interact\nwith manufacturing\/industry representatives in order to obtain technical\nproduct information utilizing telephone\/computer equipment and personal contact\nin accordance with departmental policies and procedures, as needed.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

25.\n Interact\nwith Construction Services Branch (CSB), state construction supervisors,\ninstitution staff and capital outlay staff to provide information, resolve\nconstruction issues, ensure construction quality and maintain design standards\nutilizing CBC, DCG, manuals, professional knowledge, industry standard\ntechniques, etc., within specified timeframes, on a daily basis.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

26. \u00a0Train staff to improve their knowledge and skills utilizing various resources (e.g., on-the-job training, mentoring, etc.) as required.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

27.\n Participate\nin the development of policies, procedures and office standards of structural\ndesign to ensure consistency, compliance and conformity with departmental and\nbranch policies utilizing Microsoft Word documents, Computer Aided Drafting and\nDesign (AutoCAD), Adobe Pro as required.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

28.\n Assist\nFacilities Asset Management Branch (FAMB), Project Management Branch (PMB) and\ntheir design professionals in developing comprehensive submittal packages\nutilizing professional knowledge, CBC, DCG, etc., as needed.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

29.\n Assist\nclients with various project documents and reports used to establish scopes,\nbudgets and schedules as required to support the client\u2019s funding request with\nthe Department of Finance (DOF) in accordance with applicable regulations,\nlegislative mandates and client requirements, as needed.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

30.\n Provide\nsupport and update of project documentation by identifying information\nnecessary to maintain an accurate and complete historical record in the project\nfolder utilizing departmental policies and procedures, as needed.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
