Task Statements:<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

1.\n Assessment and management of mental\ndisorders including examining, diagnosing, classifying, prescribing treatment\nand rehabilitation programs for patients in institutional, parole and juvenile\njustice settings to ensure compliance with appropriate standards of care as\nspecified in various laws, rules, regulations, court mandates (e.g., Division\nof Correctional Health Care Services\/Division of Juvenile Justice policies and\nprocedures), on a continuous basis under the direction of the Chief of Mental\nHealth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2.\n Administers psychiatric care for\npatients in institutional, parole and juvenile justice settings in\ncollaboration with a multi-disciplinary treatment team to maximum level-of-functioning\nand stabilization\/remission of symptoms to ensure compliance with appropriate\nstandards of care as specified in various laws, rules, regulations, court\nmandates (e.g., Division of Correctional Health Care Services\/Division of\nJuvenile Justice policies and procedures) under the direction of the Team\nLeader. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

3.\n Perform clinical rounds consistent with\non call duties and acute\/sub-acute patient care management to ensure compliance\nwith appropriate standards of care as specified in various laws, rules,\nregulations, court mandates (e.g., Division of Correctional Health Care\nServices\/Division of Juvenile Justice policies and procedures) under the\ndirection of the Chief of Mental Health. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

4.\n Consults, when clinically indicated,\nwith peers and\/or supervisors on unusual, complex, or serious cases or presents\nsuch cases to a clinical conference for advice or decision regarding treatment\nstrategies to ensure compliance with appropriate standards of care as specified\nin various laws, rules, regulations, court mandates (e.g., Division of\nCorrectional Health Care Services\/Division of Juvenile Justice policies and\nprocedures) under the direction of the Team Leader. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

5.\n Provides instruction and supervision to\nresidents, personnel or other health care providers assigned for special\ntraining and education in correctional mental health care to ensure compliance\nwith appropriate standards of care as specified in various laws, rules,\nregulations, court mandates (e.g., Division of Correctional Health Care\nServices\/Division of Juvenile Justice policies and procedures), on a continuous\nbasis under the direction of the Chief of Mental Health. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

6.\n Participates in staff meetings, mental\nhealth program committees, and workgroups, (and other committees and workgroups\nas assigned) to provide subject matter expertise and ensure proper\nimplementation of the standards of mental health care under the direction of\nthe Chief of Mental Health. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

7.\n Ensures proper (legible, dated, and\ntimed per Departmental Operations Manual) and sufficient clinical documentation\nis recorded in the psychiatric\/medical records (e.g. paper and electronic)\nutilizing a variety of resources (e.g. communication skills, computer\nequipment, etc.) to ensure continuity of care and adequate risk management\nunder the direction of the Chief of Mental Health. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

8.\n Provides and receives information\nrelative to mental health care (written and\/or verbal) to or from\ninmate\/ward-authorized parties to establish, inform and maintain cooperative\nrelationships utilizing various resources (e.g. interpersonal\/communication\nskills, knowledge, etc.) in the presence of supervisory or management staff and\nunder the direction of Chief of Mental Health. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

9.\n As with all employees, maintains order\nof persons committed to the California Department of Corrections and\nRehabilitation to ensure the security of working areas\/materials, to prevent\nescape and injury by these persons to themselves and\/or others, and to\nsafeguard property utilizing various resources (e.g. interpersonal skills,\nheightened awareness of the surroundings, knowledge, various alarm systems,\netc.) as dictated by departmental policy and under the direction of the\nWarden\/Superintendent or designee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

K4.\n Basic knowledge of the principles and\npractices of clinical psychology, psychiatric social work and psychiatric\nnursing as they apply to the multi-disciplinary treatment team model to\nmaximize level-of-functioning and stabilization\/remission of symptoms <\/p>\n\n\n\n

K5.\n Thorough knowledge of the various\npatient levels of care (i.e., Outpatient, Residential\/Day Treatment, Inpatient\nPrograms) for effective management of patient care. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

K6.\n Basic knowledge of the principles,\nmethods and objectives of training treatment personnel as it applies to the\nmanagement and care of mentally disordered patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
