Description: The program launch will explore an array of community responder models tailored to local needs to improve health outcomes and reduce reliance on law enforcement. Community responder models provide immediate assistance for people experiencing behavioral health (i.e., mental health and substance use) crises, conduct wellness checks, help people with housing needs, and more. The event will showcase the Expanding First Response toolkit, a resource serving as a central hub for local communities and states looking to establish or strengthen these programs and reimagine public safety. Successfully implemented community responder programs can improve outcomes while reducing unnecessary contact with the criminal justice system.
