The Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) released Medi-Cal’s Strategies to Support Health and Opportunity for Children and Families on March 2, 2022. The report outlines a strategy to unify the common threads of existing and newly proposed child and family health initiatives under Medi-Cal and strengthen DHCS’ accountability and oversight of children’s services. The strategy consists of eight initiatives:
- Implement a new leadership structure and engagement approach
- Strengthen the coverage base for California’s children
- Fortify the pediatric preventative and primary care foundation
- Strengthen access to pediatric vaccinations
- Enhance accountability for high-quality and equitable care for children
- Apply a family-centered approach
- Address the children and adolescent behavioral health crisis
- Next steps on the foster care model of care
