Employees 65+, Employees with Chronic Health Conditions, and School Closures

Below is information regarding the Governor’s direction pertaining to employees over 65 or with chronic health conditions.
Staff who are 65 or older who request to not come to work due to COVID-19
Below is information pertaining to employees over 65 or with chronic health conditions, following the Governor’s recent statements advising people in those categories to stay home.
- Supervisor should evaluate if the employees work is deemed essential or nonessential.
- If telework is an option, follow the IT process to see if doable.
- If per IT the request is approved, supervisor should approve
- If telework has been explored and is not an option, the employee can use leave credits.
- If the employee’s leave credits have been confirmed to be exhausted, hardship ATO will be granted for two weeks at a time. Supervisors should reevaluate telework options every two weeks. Employees on ATO are still responsible for communicating and responding to their supervisors.
Staff who self-certify to their supervisor they have a chronic health condition and request not to come to work due to COVID-19
- Supervisor should request a note from the employees’ healthcare provider providing the following information (All people do not have equal vulnerability – it’s essential the return to work staff have clear guidance from the healthcare provider )
- Employee has a chronic health condition
- Workplace restrictions or limitations
- Duration
- Supervisor should evaluate if the employee’s work is deemed essential or nonessential
- If telework is an option, follow the IT process to see if doable.
- If per IT the request is approved, supervisor should approve.
- If telework has been explored and is not an option, the employee can use leave credits
- If the employee’s leave credits have been confirmed to be exhausted, hardship ATO will be granted for a maximum of two weeks at a time. Supervisors should reevaluate telework options every two weeks. Employees on ATO are still responsible for communicating and responding to their supervisors. Employees will be requested to provide a note from their healthcare provider monthly.
Catastrophic Time Banks (CTB) shall be created while employees are on hardship ATO. Any CTB donations received shall be used in lieu of ATO.
