Camp History

McCain Valley was established in 1986, and is operated jointly by CDCR and CAL FIRE. Since its inception, the Conservation Camp has evolved into a highly mobile work force engaging in all forms of risk disaster mitigation such as pre-fire fuel management and maintaining fire defense improvements and facilities.  As part of its mission, camp participants also conduct a number of conservation projects for local, state, and federal agencies.

In addition to the missions listed above, the Camp Administration is a Charter Member of the Border Agency Fire Council.
