{"id":1134,"date":"2023-11-16T15:36:27","date_gmt":"2023-11-16T23:36:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cdcr.ca.gov\/hcdom\/?post_type=dom&#038;p=1134"},"modified":"2024-12-13T10:33:27","modified_gmt":"2024-12-13T18:33:27","slug":"3-5-27-temporary-absence-of-the-pharmacist","status":"publish","type":"dom","link":"https:\/\/www.cdcr.ca.gov\/hcdom\/dom\/chapter-3-health-care-operations\/article-5-pharmacy\/3-5-27-temporary-absence-of-the-pharmacist\/","title":{"rendered":"3.5.27 Temporary Absence of the Pharmacist"},"content":{"rendered":"\t<ul class=\"cdcr-dom-group-block\">\n\t\t\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Policy<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t<ul class=\"cdcr-dom-group-block\">\n\t\t\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block is-style-no-marker\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>This policy provides for the continued legal operation of the pharmacy during a temporary absence of the pharmacist as permitted by federal and state law.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\n\t<\/ul>\n\t\n\t<\/li>\n\t\n\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Purpose<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t<ul class=\"cdcr-dom-group-block\">\n\t\t\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block is-style-no-marker\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>To ensure that pharmacy operations may continue during the temporary absence of a pharmacist as permitted by federal and state law.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\n\t<\/ul>\n\t\n\t<\/li>\n\t\n\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Procedure<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t<ul class=\"cdcr-dom-group-block\">\n\t\t\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>The Chief Executive Officer and the Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) are responsible for providing pharmacist coverage for the pharmacy during the facilities hours of operation.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\n\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>It is permissible for the pharmacist to be temporarily absent from the licensed pharmacy for the performance of authorized duties within the institution, breaks, and meal periods.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\n\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>During temporary absences, the pharmacist on duty and the PIC remain responsible for all work.\u00a0 No work performed during a temporary absence of a pharmacist shall leave the pharmacy without being checked by a pharmacist.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\n\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>During temporary absences, the pharmacist on duty and the PIC remain responsible for the security of the pharmacy.
