{"id":1222,"date":"2023-11-29T13:16:04","date_gmt":"2023-11-29T21:16:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cdcr.ca.gov\/hcdom\/?post_type=dom&#038;p=1222"},"modified":"2025-07-14T15:46:42","modified_gmt":"2025-07-14T22:46:42","slug":"3-8-6-tuberculosis-program","status":"publish","type":"dom","link":"https:\/\/www.cdcr.ca.gov\/hcdom\/dom\/chapter-3-health-care-operations\/article-8-public-health\/3-8-6-tuberculosis-program\/","title":{"rendered":"3.8.6 Tuberculosis Program"},"content":{"rendered":"\t<ul class=\"cdcr-dom-group-block\">\n\t\t\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Policy<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t<ul class=\"cdcr-dom-group-block\">\n\t\t\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block is-style-no-marker\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>The California Correctional Health Care Services (CCHCS) program of detection, reporting, isolation, treatment, contact investigations, screening, and surveillance of tuberculosis (TB) cases and recent latent TB infections (LTBIs) shall comply with applicable state law, regulations, and national and state guidelines. Using evidence-based guidelines, CCHCS shall control TB transmission among patients by:<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\n\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Rapidly identifying, isolating, treating, and providing case management of patients with active TB disease.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\n\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Identifying recently exposed patients (contact investigations) and detecting and treating recent LTBIs.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\n\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Providing case management of recently infected but untreated patients for two years to detect active TB disease.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\n\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Providing case management of patients with LTBI who are receiving treatment to prevent development of active TB disease.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\n\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Ensuring CCHCS providers reference and consider the current <a href=\"https:\/\/cchcs.ca.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/60\/Tuberculosis-CG.pdf\">CCHCS TB Care Guide<\/a> and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\n\t<\/ul>\n\t\n\t<\/li>\n\t\n\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Purpose<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t<ul class=\"cdcr-dom-group-block\">\n\t\t\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block is-style-no-marker\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>To minimize morbidity and mortality from TB among patients under the care of CCHCS.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\n\t<\/ul>\n\t\n\t<\/li>\n\t\n\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Responsibility<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t<ul class=\"cdcr-dom-group-block\">\n\t\t\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block is-style-no-marker\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>The Chief Executive Officer shall designate a provider who is knowledgeable in infectious diseases to be responsible for oversight of the institution\u2019s TB control program.
