{"id":173,"date":"2023-09-11T11:08:51","date_gmt":"2023-09-11T18:08:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cdcr.ca.gov\/hcdom\/?post_type=dom&#038;p=173"},"modified":"2023-12-29T13:56:54","modified_gmt":"2023-12-29T21:56:54","slug":"3-3-2-1-initial-health-screening-receiving-and-release","status":"publish","type":"dom","link":"https:\/\/www.cdcr.ca.gov\/hcdom\/dom\/chapter-3-health-care-operations\/article-3-dental-care-scope-of-services\/3-3-2-1-initial-health-screening-receiving-and-release\/","title":{"rendered":"3.3.2.1 Initial Health Screening \u2013 Receiving and Release"},"content":{"rendered":"\t<ul class=\"cdcr-dom-group-block\">\n\t\t\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Policy<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t<ul class=\"cdcr-dom-group-block\">\n\t\t\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block is-style-no-marker\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>California Department of Corrections (CDCR), Division of Health Care Services (DHCS), Receiving and Release (R&amp;R), nursing staff shall perform an initial health screening on each patient upon commitment to a CDCR institution to identify urgent\/emergent dental needs.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\n\t<\/ul>\n\t\n\t<\/li>\n\t\n\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Purpose<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t<ul class=\"cdcr-dom-group-block\">\n\t\t\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block is-style-no-marker\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>To provide patients with continuity of health care and to identify urgent\/emergent dental conditions requiring referral to a dentist for immediate care.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\n\t<\/ul>\n\t\n\t<\/li>\n\t\n\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Procedure<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t<ul class=\"cdcr-dom-group-block\">\n\t\t\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Each newly arriving patient, including new commitments and parole violators, shall receive an initial health screening including an assessment of their dental needs in R&amp;R, prior to being housed, which shall be performed by nursing staff.
