{"id":320,"date":"2023-09-21T16:42:08","date_gmt":"2023-09-21T23:42:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cdcr.ca.gov\/hcdom\/?post_type=dom&#038;p=320"},"modified":"2026-01-07T11:07:40","modified_gmt":"2026-01-07T19:07:40","slug":"4-1-7-gender-dysphoria-management","status":"publish","type":"dom","link":"https:\/\/www.cdcr.ca.gov\/hcdom\/dom\/chapter-4-special-circumstances\/article-1-health-care\/4-1-7-gender-dysphoria-management\/","title":{"rendered":"4.1.7 Gender Dysphoria Management"},"content":{"rendered":"\t<ul class=\"cdcr-dom-group-block\">\n\t\t\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Policy<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t<ul class=\"cdcr-dom-group-block\">\n\t\t\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>California Correctional Health Care Services (CCHCS) and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) shall provide medically necessary gender affirming care for transgender and gender diverse (TGD) patients who are diagnosed with Gender Dysphoria (GD). The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), published by the American Psychiatric Association, provides the diagnostic criteria for GD.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\n\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>The CCHCS Transgender Care Guide shall be used to aid medical and mental health staff in the evaluation and management of TGD patients.
