{"id":532,"date":"2023-10-06T16:00:49","date_gmt":"2023-10-06T23:00:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cdcr.ca.gov\/hcdom\/?post_type=dom&#038;p=532"},"modified":"2023-12-29T14:42:02","modified_gmt":"2023-12-29T22:42:02","slug":"3-3-6-6-dental-holds-and-patient-transport-transfers","status":"publish","type":"dom","link":"https:\/\/www.cdcr.ca.gov\/hcdom\/dom\/chapter-3-health-care-operations\/article-3-dental-care-6-health-services-record-management\/3-3-6-6-dental-holds-and-patient-transport-transfers\/","title":{"rendered":"3.3.6.6 Dental Holds and Patient Transport\/Transfers"},"content":{"rendered":"\t<ul class=\"cdcr-dom-group-block\">\n\t\t\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Policy<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t<ul class=\"cdcr-dom-group-block\">\n\t\t\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block is-style-no-marker\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation shall utilize a dental hold process when the transfer or transport of a patient is not clinically appropriate.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\n\t<\/ul>\n\t\n\t<\/li>\n\t\n\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Purpose<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t<ul class=\"cdcr-dom-group-block\">\n\t\t\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block is-style-no-marker\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>To establish procedures and criteria for placing dental holds on patients scheduled for transfer or transport.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\n\t<\/ul>\n\t\n\t<\/li>\n\t\n\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Procedure<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t<ul class=\"cdcr-dom-group-block\">\n\t\t\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>The treating dentist in conjunction with the Supervising Dentist (SD) shall determine if a dental hold should be placed on a patient.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\n\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>A dental hold shall be placed on a patient for any of the following reasons:<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t<ul class=\"cdcr-dom-group-block\">\n\t\t\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>The patient has untreated Dental Priority Classification 1A dental needs.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\n\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>The patient has a dental condition that in the opinion of the treating dentist, in conjunction with the SD, requires immediate care.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\n\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Immediate dentures were recently inserted.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\n\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>The patient is awaiting completion of endodontic treatment, (i.e., the obturation of canals).<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\n\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>The patient is awaiting an onsite or outside specialty consultation and\/or treatment.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\n\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>The patient is awaiting laboratory or biopsy results.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\n\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>The patient is undergoing treatment for a fracture of the mandible or maxilla, and\/or is still in wired fixation.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\n\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>The patient is being referred to the Dental Authorization Review Committee.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\n\t<\/ul>\n\t\n\t<\/li>\n\t\n\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>The SD shall review the health record and the Health Care Department Operations Manual (HCDOM) to ensure compliance with approved policies and procedures. (Reference the HCDOM, Section 3.1.9, Health Care Transfer).<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\n\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>The treating dentist shall document the dental hold in a clinical note in the Electronic Dental Record System (EDRS) in accordance with EDRS Workflow 1-2 and associated Back Office Job Aid, and as outlined in the HCDOM, Section 3.3.6.1(c)(1)(F) through (H).\u00a0 The dental hold shall be placed as outlined in the HCDOM, Section 3.3.6.4(c)(1)(A).<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\n\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>The SD shall notify the Chief Executive Officer, or designee, of the placement or removal of a dental hold.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\n\n\t<li class=\"cdcr-dom-item-block\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>The dental hold shall be closed only by the attending dentist, outside specialty consultant, or SD.
