Photos by Rachel Stern.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>NC complex youth \u201cLaunched into Success\u201d at job fair<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>More\nthan a dozen community resource organizations converged at the Stockton complex\nlast week (Nov.7) for a fair aimed at linking youth with educational,\nvocational and training opportunities in preparation for their reentry to the\ncommunity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among\nthe participants were members of the Sacramento and Los Angeles Chapters of the\nAnti-Recidivism Coalition, Civic Corps of Oakland, Delta College, which\nprovides&nbsp; vocational training leading\ndirectly to employment, and the California Conservation Corps, which will\nprovide a newly forming training program to allow youth to qualify for\nplacement in CCC. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Project\nRebound, which helps formerly incarcerated youth and adults to complete degrees\nat four year colleges, was among the participants. \u201cIt\u2019s nice because some of\nthem used to be in prison, so I can see what they\u2019re saying changes people,\u201d\none youth commented after the Project Rebound workshop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nevent was coordinated by VISTA members assigned to the complex with the mission\nof linking youth to community resources. Youth heard informational sessions in\nthe morning and went to break out workshops in the afternoon.&nbsp; \u201cIt was a\nfantastic success,\u201d said Dainette Bowens, statewide re-entry coordinator.\n\u201cParticipation by the youth was off the charts.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also\npresent at the fair was Rachel Stern, Executive Officer of the Board of\nJuvenile Hearings. She was there to inform youth on the Honorable Discharge\nProgram, in which youth who demonstrate success in the community after leaving\ncustody can use that designation as proof of rehabilitation, potentially\nclearing barriers to future employment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis was a great opportunity for\nour youth to really connect with resources that will help them transition to\nadulthood as they leave us\u201d, said Stern. \u201cThe personal connections they were\nable to make with potential schools and employers was invaluable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A similar event was held at Ventura YCF last Spring with participation by groups like Homeboy Industries, Santa Monica College and the LAX Apprenticeship Program, which is training and hiring construction workers to build capital improvements at the busy international air hub. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>We\u2019re growing. Here are some current job postings <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Program Specialist \u2013 Training, Enrichment and Development<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Will consider: Treatment Team Supervisor | Supervising\nCasework Specialist | Senior Psychologist Specialist | Supervising Psychiatric\nSocial Worker I<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is&nbsp; an\nexciting new position that will serve as the core coordinator for the\ndevelopment of the new Pre-service Training Institute\u2019s curriculum, tools and\nresources. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of, or passion to learn\nabout Trauma Informed Care and Positive Youth Development. Conducts research\nand consults with departmental staff, leadership, academia and other external\nexperts. Final Filing date of 12\/2\/2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Instructional Designers (AGPA)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DJJ is recruiting multiple Instructional Designers (AGPA) to\nhelp write curriculum for the new department. These permanent, full-time\npositions, located at the Stockton Training Center will work closely with staff\nand subject matter experts from inside and outside the department, and drive\nthe future of training for YCR. Looking for individuals who want to make a\ndifference, and are strong writers. Interested candidates should apply by\n11\/23\/2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Custodian (CF)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DJJ is recruiting one custodian position as a member of the Stockton Training Center team, performing critical custodial duties to ensure a clean and safe environment and assist in the day to day functioning of the unit.
