Missing Medical Parolee Apprehended

San Diego County– Robert Virgil Taylor, 50, was apprehended on January 13, 2015, by agents from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s (CDCR) Office of Correctional Safety Fugitive Apprehension Team and Special Service Unit and their partners from the U.S. Marshals Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force.

Taylor, a former medical parolee, had been a fugitive from justice since October 1, 2014, when he went missing from the convalescent home where he lived in Eastern San Diego County.  It is believed that someone helped him leave the facility and evade law enforcement.  The investigation into this case is ongoing; therefore, further details are not available.

Taylor was released to medical parole in June 2014. His criminal history includes several convictions for robbery along with kidnapping, burglary, assault and bringing a weapon to prison.

He is currently in custody at RJ Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego.
Medical parole, which became law January 1, 2011, allows CDCR to parole physically-incapacitated state prison inmates who require 24-hour medical care.
Currently, California has granted 76 inmates medical parole; 25 are living in skilled nursing facilities in California.
