Offender Who Walked Away from Los Angeles Reentry Facility Apprehended

LOS ANGELES — An offender who walked away from the Male Community Reentry Program (MCRP) in Los Angeles on Sunday, Jan. 20 was apprehended this afternoon.

Randy Rodriguez was taken into custody around 4 p.m. by Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department officers in the Los Angeles area during a traffic stop. He is being transported to California Institution for Men, and his case will be referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for consideration of escape charges.

Rodriguez, 32, was received by CDCR from Los Angeles County on November 8, 2017 with a four-year sentence for vehicle theft.

Since 1977, 99 percent of all offenders who have left an adult institution, camp, or community-based program without permission have been apprehended. For MCRP, 100 percent of walkaways have been returned to state custody.
