Step Down Program
The Step Down Program (SDP) is an incentive-based, multi-step process for the management of Security Threat Group (STG) affiliates. The SDP provides incarcerated individuals placed in a Security Housing Unit (SHU) or a Restricted Custody General Population (RCGP) the opportunity to earn enhanced privileges by refraining from participation in STG affiliations and behaviors. The ultimate goal of SDP is to assist validated STG affiliates with transitioning to a general population setting. Those who participate in the SDP receive the following:
- Interactive Journaling
- Group Facilitation
- Voluntary Education Program
- Elective Programming
- Pro-social Videos
Location
- California State Prison, Corcoran
- Pelican Bay State Prison
Program Length
Varies in length; up to 24-months.
Eligibility/Enrollment
In order to be eligible, incarcerated individuals must be currently serving in a SHU or RCGP or are a validated STG affiliate. Enrollment in SDP is through the Institutional Classification Committee or Departmental Review Board.
