Deputy Commissioners

Deputy Commissioners are civil servants, unlike Commissioners, who are appointed by the Governor. Most Deputy Commissioners have years of experience working in corrections, law enforcement and the legal field. Deputy Commissioners primarily serve on hearing panels chaired by Commissioners that determine parole suitability for long term-sentenced inmates. Deputy Commissioners also conduct consultations with long-term inmates, review multi-year denials of parole for inmates with long-term sentences, conduct certification, placement, annual review, and re-hospitalization hearings for mentally disordered offenders and review requests for offender discharge from parole.
