Deputy Commissioners
Deputy Commissioners are experienced attorneys and their civil service classification is administrative law judge. The Board employs about 50 administrative law judges many who have years of experience working in corrections, law enforcement and the legal field both in public and private sector settings. Deputy Commissioners primarily serve on hearing panels chaired by Commissioners that determine parole suitability for long term-sentenced persons. Deputy Commissioners also conduct consultations with long-term persons, review multi-year denials of parole for persons with long-term sentences, conduct certification, placement, annual review, and re-hospitalization hearings for mentally disordered offenders and review requests for offender discharge from parole.
