CIW honors people who have passed away

The recent “I Remember” event at California Institution for Women (CIW) honors the memory of those who passed away.

Originally started as a somber ceremony honoring those CIW lost over the years, the event has transformed into a celebration of those lives. Now the event includes a relay race, basketball free-throw competition and plenty of food.

In the spirit of the California Model, staff and the incarcerated population participated in the events.

Like a picnic, incarcerated participants purchased cheeseburger meals to enjoy on the recreation field. Cotton candy, snow cones, and popcorn were also sold to raise money for the American Heart Association.
