Crisis response team members from Calipatria, Centinela and Ironwood prisons joined the West family for the Imperial Valley Law Enforcement Relay Run. The annual event honors fallen officers and law enforcement support staff.

This year 15 teams took part in the 24-mile relay. Teams also came from the California Highway Patrol, Imperial County Sheriff’s Office, El Centro Police Department, and several from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

This year the team from Calipatria and Centinela, along with a member from the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility team, honored Correctional Officer Jason West, a former response team member.

The Calipatria-Centinela crisis response team came in second-place, finishing the relay at 2:55:58. The Ironwood team came in third with 2:58:53. The Border Patrol Special Operations Detachment came in first place with a time of 2:49:48.

This year the West family was present and Officer West’s Son completed the last leg of the course alongside members from Calipatria and Centinela State Prison.

The race gave the West family and each staff member the opportunity to remember Officer West and bring a little bit of comfort in dealing with the loss.
