On Aug. 26, California Health Care Facility (or CHCF) staff pinned the badge on new Fire Captain Hettie Medlin.

Medlin was recently appointed Fire Captain and received her badge in a ceremony under the colors at CHCF’s entrance.

She began her career with the state as a Fire Fighter 1 for the Department of Forestry in July 1994. In April 1997, Medlin graduated from the Basic Correctional Officer Academy and reported to Central California Women’s Facility.

She then worked as a Correctional Officer at Sierra Conservation Center for nine years. When CHCF was activated, she served the state as a Psychiatric Technician and a Health and Safety Officer.

Medlin has taught in-service training classes and served as a member of the Peer Support Team at CHCF.

The team said they were both proud and honored to be able to present their new Fire Captain with her badge.
