25-year state veteran leads as CHCF fire captain

California Health Care Facility (or CHCF) staff pinned the badge on new Fire Captain Hettie Medlin on Aug. 26.

Medlin was recently appointed Fire Captain and received her badge in a ceremony under the colors at CHCF’s entrance.

She began her career with the state as a Firefighter 1 for CALFIRE in July 1994. In April 1997, Medlin graduated from the Basic Correctional Officer Academy and reported to Central California Women’s Facility.

She then worked as a Correctional Officer at Sierra Conservation Center for nine years. When CHCF was activated, she served the state as a Psychiatric Technician and a Health and Safety Officer.

Medlin has taught in-service training classes and served as a member of the Peer Support Team at CHCF.

The CHCF team said they were both proud and honored to be able to present Medlin with her badge.
