With more of our interactions becoming virtual, state employees now have the ability to check their leave and earning statements online through Cal Employee Connect (CEC).
This secure web-based self-service portal is available to California state employees. Access to password protected and/or secure areas of this portal is restricted to authorized users only. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the State Controller’s Office (SCO) temporarily suspended the printing of direct deposit advices for all departments that have access to earnings and deduction information through CEC. Employees can register and access their account at https://connect.sco.ca.gov/. In order to register, you will need your Social Security number, date of birth, and the following information from a pay warrant stub from no earlier than January 2017.
- Agency Code – the first three numbers of your position number
- Earnings Statement Number – the direct deposit or warrant notice number
- Total Deductions – the dollar amount deducted from your gross pay
If you are unable to locate a pay warrant stub, contact your local Personnel Office and request a printout of your State Controller’s Office Pay History screen.
Also available at CEC are W-2s and a “What’s New” section with updates on payroll and other relevant matters.
Below are some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to help assist with making this transition as easy as possible.
1. Is the CEC Portal only for employees on Direct Deposit?
CEC is for all state employees. Everyone will be able to view their earnings statement. However, if you would like it in PDF format to save and print, you must be on direct deposit.
2. What email should I use for registering?
You can use any email to register for CEC; however, we recommend using a personal email to prevent the need to change it if you move to a different department or retire.
3. Will this help the state go paperless?
At this time, it will not replace paper earning statements or W-2s. You will continue to receive them as you always have. However, one of CEC’s ultimate goals is to provide an “opt-out” process where an employee can elect to “Go Green” with a paperless earnings statement.
4. Can I access this from home or on my mobile device?
Yes. You may access Cal Employee Connect from home or work using most internet-connected devices.
